Looking for something to do in the next couple of weekends? Things are picking up as we approach summer. We have three organizations that will be sharing their events with us on LiveWire!

On June 14th, join the Wildlife Care Association for its animal care class with the original 'dead' player- the possum!

Now found in yards, garages and attics the old tactic of 'playing dead' often doesn't work with cars, cats and dogs resulting in injury.

Q: Where do you take an injured possum?

A: To the Wildlife Care Association, the non-profit resource providing care, recovery and release of small animals and birds in the Sacramento region!

For more info on the Wildlife Care Association:

Sunday, June 7th, the Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra will be having their free June concert, "Together", at the Koreana Plaza.

The mission of the Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra is to entertain and educate under-served community audiences by providing high quality musical performances consisting of well-known but now infrequently performed works, or new musical works developed collaboratively with regional musicians.

KUBU 96.5 FM Broadcasts Sacramento City Council & Board of Supervisors

Access Sacramento's cablecast radio, internet and over-the-air audio service, The Voice of Sacramento has been partnering with Metro Cable Channel 14 for the last several months in a pilot program to broadcast regularly scheduled live meetings of the Sacramento City Council, Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission.

Most of the meetings are on Tuesday mornings and evenings with some Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.

Testing began in late March, with KUBU rebroadcasting the audio from Metro Cable 14.   Access Sacramento is proud to provide this service as an on-going part of Access Sacramento's programming for The Voice of Sacramento KUBU 96.5 FM.

Budget Hearing Next Week For Access Sacramento
and Other Access Channels

Access Sacramento operates public access cable channels 17 & 18 on Comcast and Consolidated Communications Cable and AT&T U-Verse channel 14 as a grantee of the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission (SMCTC).

Sacramento Metropolitant Cable Television Commission
Each year on the first Thursday of June, the SMCTC members, made up of city council or board of supervisors members, review and approve the annual funding requests from its   Public, Education and Government (PEG) channel operators.

The SMCTC budget hearing occurs a week from Thursday, June 4, at 2:30 at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 7th and H streets in downtown Sacramento.

In addition to Access Sacramento, the Metro 14 government access channel, educational channels 15 & 16 run by the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium and channel 7 run by KVIE, and Capital Public Radio submit SMCTC funding requests.

There are two funding streams collected from cable subscribers. Cable franchise fee money  primarily funds the city and county for basic needs like roads, police and fire and other infrastructure, but also supports salaries and some operational expenses of the grantees. A Capital Outlay PEG Fund helps with equipment purchases but may not be used for operational expenses.

For Access Sacramento, in addition to requesting salary and operational expenses, we are also requesting equipment modernization for our remote production truck and for an expansion to our digital media computer lab among other equipment requests.

The public is invited to attend the budget hearing or it can be watched live on Metro 14 or heard on KUBU 96.5 FM.
