Top Volunteer Marge McCreary
Remembered

Marge McCreary in the Access Sacramento office 2014
Marge McCreary, 93, twice named "Volunteer of the Year" at Access Sacramento, died last Thursday after a lengthy battle with cancer.

For many years, Marge was an indispensable helper in the office and in the TV studio. Her energy and enthusiasm was infectious as she helped run camera, operated LiveWire! slideshows, and made copies, always with a smile and a wink.

In addition to being a Mom and Grandmother, Marge enjoyed a long career as an Executive Secretary for Wells Fargo Bank. As a volunteer starting in 1986, she organized bus tours designed for the elderly by the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department. Marge received Volunteer of the Year honors from the City of Sacramento in 2006, and the "Salt of the Earth" Volunteer of the Year from Sacramento County in 2008.

She also served as a volunteer usher for the Community Center, B Street Theater, Music Circus, the Jazz Festival and several other theatrical venues in Sacramento. She spent time with the Sacramento Children's Home, and was an active volunteer docent with the Friends of the California State Fair.

Until her illness reduced her active schedule, Marge would contribute five days per week to her volunteer efforts until just the last year. "Gotta keep moving" was her credo and motivation.

A private family service is planned. We extend our condolences to her family and many friends. Marge represented "The Greatest Generation" with energy, enthusiasm and compassion. May each of us live as long and contribute as much. We will miss you Marge.

KUBU 96.5 FM Broadcasts Sacramento City Council & Board of Supervisors

Access Sacramento's cablecast radio, internet and over-the-air audio service, The Voice of Sacramento has been partnering with Metro Cable Channel 14 for the last several months in a pilot program to broadcast regularly scheduled live meetings of the Sacramento City Council, Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission.

Most of the meetings are on Tuesday mornings and evenings with some Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.

"Providing access to the democratic process by our elected leaders is one of the most important roles public access channels like Access Sacramento and KUBU 96.5 FM can play in our community," said Gary Martin, Access Sacramento's Executive Director.

After several weeks of testing for both the technical process of rebroadcasting the audio from Metro Cable 14, and managing the live meetings into the mostly-automated programming on KUBU, Access Sacramento is proud to publicly announce and launch this service as an on-going part of Access Sacramento's programming plans for The Voice of Sacramento KUBU 96.5 FM.
