Tomorrow 5pm on LiveWire!
High School PSA Winners, Matias Bombal & The Jewish Federation
livewirelogo

We have a busy show tomorrow! Joining us are the winners of Access Sacramento's High School PSA contest to tell us about their experience and to collect their awards for 1st and 2nd place. Next, we'll talk to Matías Bombal from "Matías Bombal's Hollywood", to talk about his movie reviews as well as his recently released documentary, "The Sacramento Picture." Lastly, the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region will be talking to us about its event this Sunday, The Jewish Heritage Festival at Raley Field.

Late last year Access Sacramento announced to Sacramento region high schools a public service announcement contest that connected high school storytellers with local nonprofit organizations.

Months later, we announced the winners and two of them will be on LiveWire! First place winner Max Esipciuc and his project with WEAVE and second place winner Jamie Campos with his project, "Fight the Bite," will  talk about the contest and their process in making their videos.

"Matías Bombal's Hollywood" presents movie reviews of new films currently playing or coming soon to a theater near you.

Noted California showman, broadcaster and former movie palace manager, Matías Bombal, is known for his love of cinema from its beginning to the arrival of Ultra-High-Definition digital films. This gives him a most interesting perspective on reviewing the current releases.

Matías has also recently released the documentary film "The Sacramento Picture," a collection of rare movies of Sacramento from 1910-1974 and selections from the KCRA news film collection between 1957-1960. In the care of the Center for Sacramento History, it has been digitized through the California Audiovisual Preservation Project.

The Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region is a philanthropic, non-profit organization that provides educational, cultural, and social services and programs within the Jewish community locally and around the world.

The Federation movement, collectively among the top 10 charities on the continent, protects and enhances the well-being of Jews worldwide through the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and tzedakah (charity and social justice).

This Sunday, they are hosting the 2015 Jewish Heritage Festival in Raley Field and will be coming onto the show to talk more about it.

Join us and tune in to LiveWire! at 5 p.m.  Wednesday, May 13th on Access Sacramento channel 17. You can also watch the simulcast online the same time it airs at www.AccessSacramento.org and click 'watch 17'. The encore presentation airs the following Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Proposed Federal Law Supports Public Access to Television Programming

Legislation that would ensure the public has access to community access channels was proposed late last week by two U.S. senators.

Access Sacramento TV Studio

The Community Access Preservation (CAP) Act would make it easier for broadcasters like Access Sacramento to continue serving their communities even as national and corporate national messages increasingly dominate mainstream television broadcasting.

There are nearly 2,000 Community Centers like ours operating 5,000 cable broadcast channels across the United States.

Stations like ours provide vital civic information through local non-commercial media channels, but since 2008 hundreds of centers have closed because laws about how money for public access changed.

This new law, would correct the rules that have forced so many cable channels to shutdown.

The diversity of programming that is only represented on community television like Access Sacramento include beginning to end political forums, community workshops, parades, festival and locally Hometown TV and Game of the Week.

Click HERE for more information on the CAP Act and how you can help.
