Two Orientation Sessions

Access Sacramento's next free orientation is Tuesday, April 14 at 6 pm. 

 

RSVP by calling 916-456-8600 ext. 0.

 

Access Sacramento's regularly  scheduled Orientation Sessions are on the 2nd Tuesday and 3rd Wednesday of every month.  

 

Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little more than an hour. The orientation class is also a required step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.   

 

The Orientation Class gives you a chance to ask questions and to learn about our services and what we provide to the community and our members. We also describe the standard classes, member benefits, and provide a tour of the radio and TV studios and digital media lab.   

 

All classes are on a first come, first serve basis. We hope to see you there!

"Place Called Sacramento"
Scripts Due Friday


Place Called Sacramento Mascot Quentin Sacramento
Access Sacramento's 16th annual "Place Called Sacramento" Film Festival's first deadline is this Friday when scripts are due from those who hope to have their script for production and display in a World Premiere  next October.

Local writers hope to be among 10 scripts that will be named winners in the annual competition featuring storyline that feature Sacramento.

Founded 16 years ago as a way to showcase Sacramento stories, writers, actors and production crew, Access Sacramento's grand film making  adventure has come to be recognized as a standout showcase of area talent.

Three special classes are scheduled for those who want to enhance their filmmaking technical skills.

*Filmmaking Tips begins April 11-May 2 and runs four Saturdays 11am-3pm. $50
*Acting for the Camera is a one-day class May 30 9am to 5pm.  $25
*Makeup for Film and TV is a one-day class June 6 9am to 1pm. $35

The special film classes are open to the general public without an Access Sacramento membership.

Mark your calendar, all volunteers who would like to help with a film are invited to the free annual Cast & Crew Call Wednesday, May 13 6pm - 8:30 pm at the Coloma Community Center Courtyard.

A week from Thursday, 12 top talent acts head to the Crest Theatre to compete for your votes and for a chance at $500 in top prize money.

The audience gets to vote, so bring your phone for a chance to help decide who wins the cash. Second place gets $250 and third place gets $100.

Access Sacramento Recruits Youth at Sacramento Job Fair.

On Saturday, March 21st, Access Sacramento attended the City Of Sacramento's Youth Job Fair at City Hall. For the second year in a row, Access Sacramento was represented by Isaac Gonzalez, Youth Media Coordinator for AccessLocal.TV, out community news website. Gonzalez met with over a hundred would-be applicants who are searching for summer jobs and are interested in media production.
"These events are a great way to get our brand and mission out into the community," says Gonzalez. "There were at least a dozen young people who I had the chance to engage with and seem like natural fits for our program. 
I'm sure that I'll see many of them in June as we reenter the interview process."

AccessLocal.TV hires and trains up to six young people at a time to produce content for the web and the cable channel. The next round of hiring will begin in June with a target start date in July. For more information, email

Power Failure Causes LiveWire Reset to Tomorrow

Access Sacramento tomorrow welcomes three high school students who created videos in support of local non-profit groups that will air on Access Sacramento. These guests were originally scheduled last week, but the live show had to be cancelled because of a power failure in the neighborhood where Access Sacramento's studio is located.

Two Center High School students from Antelope and a Franklin High School Student from Elk Grove won the top prizes in Access Sacramento's high school student public service announcement competition.

Host Ray Tatar will share the three videos and introduce viewers to their makers. You'll also hear from Franklin High School video teacher Brad Clark who helped Access Sacramento coordinate the competition.

1st Place Winner: Max Esipciuc of Center High School won first place and a $100 top prize for his public service announcement supporting WEAVE (Women Escaping A Violent Environment).
2nd Place Winner: Second place went to Jamie Campos of Franklin High School for his public service announcement about the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District's "Fight the Bite Campaign."

3rd Place Winner: Third place was awarded to Brandon Pibal from Center High School for his video about the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District.

Access Sacramento Board of Directors Meets Thursday

The Access Sacramento Board of Director's meets in two days, Thursday March 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gold Run Room of the Coloma Community Center, 4623 T. Street, Sacramento.

The Board meets monthly on the fourth Thursdays of every month for its regular business meeting.

An application to become a volunteer board members is available from the Access Sacramento website or from the main business office.  Besides attending the regular meeting, board members review, support and direct the entire variety of Access Sacramento programs including its mission to provide training and equipment resources for all residents of Sacramento County.

The board also supports programs like the Place Called Sacramento Film Festival, Sacramento Has Talent show and "The Voice of Sacramento" KUBU 96.5 FM.
