Free Orientation Sessions

Tonight & Next Wednesday

Access Sacramento has two free orientation sessions next month: Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 18. Both at 6pm. 

 

RSVP by calling 916-456-8600 ext. 0.

 

Access Sacramento's regularly  scheduled Orientation Sessions are on the 2nd Tuesday and 3rd Wednesday of every month.  

 

Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little more than an hour. The orientation class is also a required step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.   

 

The Orientation Class gives you a chance to ask questions and to learn about our services and what we provide to the community and our members. We also describe the standard classes, member benefits, and provide a tour of the radio and TV studios and digital media lab.   

 

All classes are on a first come, first serve basis. We hope to see you there!

High School Videos About Sacramento Non-Profits Awarded by Access Sacramento

Two Center High School students from Antelope and a Franklin High School Student from Elk Grove won the top prizes this week in a high school student video competition supporting local non-profit organizations by Access Sacramento.

First, Second and Third Place winners not only receive cash prizes but will also have their videos air on Access Sacramento, Comcast/Consolidated Communications Channel 17, AT&T U-Verse Channel 14 and streamed live from AccessSacramento.org.

1st Place Winner: Max Esipciuc of Center High School won first place and a $100 top prize for his public service announcement supporting WEAVE (Women Escaping A Violent Environment).

2nd Place Winner: Second place went to Jamie Campos of Franklin High School for his public service announcement about the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District's "Fight the Bite Campaign."

3rd Place Winner: Third place was awarded to Brandon Pibal from Center High School for his video about the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District.

Congratulations to all the winners and entrants for their hard work and time invested.

Sacramento Civil Liberties Leader Named Access Sacramento Power of Voice Honoree

The Access Sacramento Board of Directors is proud to announce its 3rd Annual "Power of Voice" (POV) award will be presented to Basim Elkarra, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Sacramento Valley Chapter for his outspoken support and leadership in the area of Free Speech, tolerance and civil liberties.

"Basim Elkarra's dedication to reaching outto local citizens' groups and encouraging thoughtful trust-building among diverse populations makes him an outstanding recipient of the Power of Voice award," said JoAnn Fuller, Access Sacramento's Board of Directors chair.

The Award will be presented April 2 during Access Sacramento's "Sacramento Has Talent" competition. Tickets available HERE.

If you're starving for arts and entertainment, we've got the show for you this week! On LiveWire! we have Women's Wisdom Art to celebrate Women's History Month, the El Dorado-Lake Tahoe Film and Media office to promote their annual mixer, and Chixx That Rock fundraiser event all happening this Wednesday.

 

 

 

Women's Wisdom Art, formerly known as the Women's Wisdom Project (WWP), was founded in 1991 as part of Maryhouse, a daytime hospitality shelter for homeless women and children.

 

Maryhouse itself was established in September

1986 by Laura Ann Walton in conjunction with the Sisters of Mercy and as one of the services offered by Loaves and Fishes. 

 

The Women's Wisdom Project was designed as an empowerment program, for women overcoming poverty, homelessness, violence and abuse through the power of art. The women formed an artists' co-op and always donated a portion of the proceeds back into he program with any art sale.

This showcase consists of the top female talent in the Northern California and Greater

Sacramento region!
