First Six Performers Named for 3rd Sacramento Has Talent

Access Sacramento is proud to announce the first half of the talent lineup for the third annual "Sacramento Has Talent" fundraising event.

"Sacramento Has Talent" consistently produces one of the most eclectic and interesting talent competitions assembled and this first half of this year's crop reflects that. Selected performances will compete April 2 for a $500 prize and the bragging rights earned as the winner of Sacramento Has Talent 2015.

Selected participants are:

  • Joe Kyle, violinist singer-songwriter and bandleader of the Sammie-nominated Joseph in the Well. Born in Seoul, raised in Seattle, Joe draws upon an eclectic array of influences, like jazz, classical, rock, and hip-hop.

  • Comic Robert Berry is a regular booked host at the Punch Line, Laughs Unlimited and Sacramento Comedy Spot. Robert's off-beat amped up style entertains a wide variety of audiences with material ranging from hilarious pop culture observations to absurd alternative subject matter.

  • Aerialist Jenna Elkington will be performing an Aerial Silk routine. She's been pouring her heart into the craft for nearly two years and hopes to soon pass on her skills through training sessions

  • Kimberly Marie is an international fire performer and professional hula-hoop dancer from Sacramento, CA.  In early 2014 she performed over 200 fire shows at Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Japan with Fire Pixie Entertainment and Obsidian Butterfly.

  • Saayan & Sarina Yerma. These two young performers honed their skills at family and cultural events. They were selected out of the open audition live show.

  • Cheyenne Lowden. A fire plug of a singer Cheyenne was the winner of the live audition.

"I'm really excited about the variety and the depth of the talent in the first half of the field, but our work is not done yet," said show producer Ed Fletcher. "I'm looking at more suggested performers every day in search of the right mix."

AccessLocal.Tv, the community news online division of Access Sacramento, has brought on four new Neighborhood News Correspondents and promoted a returning correspondent to an adviser-level status. Mark Smeltzer, 20, is now a Tier 2 Correspondent, with responsibilities including editing and mentorship. Jennifer Lee, 18, Maurice Bey, 19, Andrew Gilbert, 19, and Ja-Annika McClinton, 15 have joined AccessLocal.Tv as entry-level correspondents.

AccessLocal.Tv is a Wordpress based news website which empowers young people from Sacramento with the ability to report on community news and stories that otherwise might not make the front page. The BHC, or "Building Healthy Communities" initiative is part of a $1 billion, ten-year statewide program which aims to empower neighborhoods with the tools and skills they need to be prosperous.

"This new group of youth reporters are eager to get to work," said Isaac Gonzalez, Youth Media Coordinator for AccessLocal.Tv.  "Each one of them brings a different set of experiences and abilities to the table and I'm looking forward to seeing what they will achieve."

Neighborhood News Correspondents spend around four months in a program, receiving specialized training and technical support from Gonzalez. Each week, they follow up on story leads a craft written articles and videos featuring content from their communities. Correspondents also produce a podcast which can be found on iTunes and a television show which appears on the Access Sacramento Cable Channel.

"I just like doing it," Said returning correspondent Smeltzer. "I like being here, I like learning, and with this program I'm learning every day."
