computer-class.jpg

Access Sacramento's only Orientation Class for November is Wednesday the 19th at 6 p.m. at the Coloma Community Center.

RSVP by calling 916-456-8600 ext. 0.

Access Sacramento's regularly  scheduled  Orientation Sessions change next month because of the holidays. Normally, they are held twice every month on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday. November breaks that pattern.

Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little more than an hour. The orientation class is also a required step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.

The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as providing a tour of the radio and TV studios and digital media lab.

All classes are on a first come, first serve basis so signing up right away is crucial. We hope to see you there!

Access Sacramento
Urges You to Vote

As a Free Speech advocate in Sacramento County supporting your right to be heard, Access Sacramento reminds you to cast your ballot today!

The very foundation of Free Speech is rooted in what the Federal Communications Commission defines as "free and open debate on issues of public importance."

Let your voice also be heard from the ballot box.

Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.  But the essence of American democratic freedom is in being heard, and casting your ballot without fear of reprisal or intimidation is a freedom not all democratic countries enjoy.

Go to the polls. Drop off your absentee ballot if you didn't mail it in. Let your voice be heard as a celebration of Free Speech.

We know at Access Sacramento, with your help, we're "Making a Difference, One Voice at a Time."  Thanks for being a part of our family of radio and television voices.

Gary Martin
Access Sacramento Executive Director

Radio Transmitter Tests Begin for Access Sacramento's KUBU 96.5 FM

In a special gathering of Access Sacramento's radio producers last night, Coordinator Shane Carpenter and Engineer Tim Parish announced that low-power KUBU 96.5 FM was ready for testing.
Radio Producers meeting with Access Sacramento staff last night in the TV Studio.
As a special treat, "The Voice of Sacramento" radio producers could hear one of the station's initial transmitter tests as they drove home after the meeting.  The "One the Real" program of old-time music from the 40's was on the air.

KUBU 96.5 FM's downtown transmitter rack with internet remote control and audio delivery from Access Sacramento's radio studios at the Coloma Community Center.

KUBU's signal from downtown Sacramento reaches approximately five miles.  That's from downtown to approximately Sleep Train Arena in the north, Arden-Arcade and Sacramento State in the East, between Fruitridge and Florin Roads in the south, and across West Sacramento.

This new outreach beyond the existing cablecast and Internet radio station is supported with initial start-up  funding from the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission, but on-going costs will be raised through a combination of fund-raising and a new radio-producer user charge.

Transmitter tests will be done primarily during business hours over the next 10 days, but both recorded and live programs from Sacramento County radio producers will get their initial broadcasts.

Access Sacramento will begin fulltime 24-hour broadcasting next week.  So far, our area has had four low-power licenses approved by the FCC, but only Access Sacramento has begun over-the-air testing so far.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. for the ribbon-cutting launch ceremony of KUBU simulcast on The Voice of Sacramento KUBU 96.5 FM and Access Sacramento Cable Channel 17.
