KUBU-LP 96.5 FM Radio Antenna Expected this week
Construction and Installation for New Low Power FM Station to Begin
Progress is starting to move more quickly as Access Sacramento prepares to move its audio service from just cable television and the Internet toward an over-the-air low-power radio station at 96.5 FM. |
The KUBU-LP 96.5 FM antenna will ride above this cell phone equipment an additional 40' higher, atop a five-story downtown Sacramento building.
|
The antenna (sort of like a large basketball hoop on its side) is expected to be delivered this week to the broadcast site in downtown Sacramento where an existing mast will be used. The rest of the equipment including the transmitter (shaped much like an old style desktop stereo that was a radio/turntable amplifier and AM/FM receiver) and all its remote controlling and monitoring equipment has been delivered to Access Sacramento's studios at the Coloma Community Center. Coloma is the site where community producers either broadcast live or recorded programming 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The next big step is for the electrical contractor to install the correct power drops at the broadcast site and to run the conduit that will carry the cable connecting the transmitter to the antenna. This work should also happen in the next 7-10 days. With power and all the equipment in place, installation of the equipment into the rack will allow testing to occur in October. An official ribbon-cutting launch is expected in mid-November. Access Sacramento allows members to take a certification class in operating the radio station so that people who aspire to be DJ's, announcers or talk show hosts are ready to take to the airwaves. Contact the main office 916-456-8600 ext. 0 to check when the next class openings are available. Class sizes because we provide personal hands-on training, plus the small sized studio space is typical of radio stations.
