Free Access Sacramento Orientation Class

Access Sacramento's holds free Orientation Sessions twice every month on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday at 6pm in Sacramento's Coloma Community Center.
Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little more than an hour. The orientation class is also a required step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.
The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as providing a tour of the radio and TV studios and digital media lab.
All classes are on a first come, first serve basis so signing up right away is crucial. We hope to see you there!

Ten Films For "A Place Called Sacramento" Being Processed
All of the films for Access Sacramento's 15th Annual Place Called Sacramento Film Festival have been delivered to Digital Media Lab supervisor Bhim Kumar-Reyes for processing.
The digital films will now be encoded for Blu-ray high quality playback. Both Blu-Ray and regular DVD's of the festival will be available for sale Oct. 5 in the lobby of The Crest. These 10 movies bring the total number of 10-minute short films created over the last 15 years to 149---each entirely about Sacramento.

Hometown TV Presents California Water Ski Pro-Am Finals
Hometown TV on Access Sacramento broadcasts a large variety of community event each year, but this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. we present a FIRST: Water Skiing! The Hometown TV crew will broadcast the finals of the 12th Annual California Water Ski Pro-Am from Rio Linda's Bell Agua 2 lake.  |

There are men's and women's divisions competing in head to head battles with both championshps and possible world records on the line. Skiers whip back and forth behind the ski boat, swinging around the slalom bouys at faster and faster speeds before, one by one, they miss or fall (sometimes spectacularly) eventually leaving one top winning athlete. This week marks the last installment of "Meet the 2014 PCS Filmmakers" on LiveWire on Access Sacramento. Each week we have introduced you to one of the ten winners of the Place Called Sacramento Film Festival and this week you'll get to meet Thuy Pham, Writer and Producer of "Two Pods and a Pea." Thuy and his cast and crew have worked hard all summer to bring you a story about one family's journey through childbirth. His story is charming and sweet and little bit informative, too. Ventura Conference Oct. 22-24

Panels, Workshops and Vendor displays especially designed for members and leaders in public, education and government access are planned for Oct. 22-14 at the Ventura Crowne Plaza hotel during the Alliance for Community Media's West Division annual conference.

"An Evening with Michael Lerner" Sunday 8 pm * Channel 17
"Media Edge" this Sunday offers a special presentation: The Founder of the Network of Spiritual Progressives, Rabbi Michael Lerner's talk in Sacramento in 2012 will be shown Sunday at 8 pm on Channel 17.
"Media Edge" is a video magazine series offering two hours of in-depth, thought-provoking, progressive viewpoints each week. The series features local segments like the one about Lerner, along with nationally distributed videos and documentaries.

In his book, "Embracing Israel/Palestine", Lerner describes his views about building peace between Israel and Palestine, which he discusses at length during this presentation.
Lerner is a political activist, the editor of Tikkun, a progressive Jewish interfaith magazine based in Berkeley, California, and the rabbi of Beyt Tikkun Synagogue of San Francisco.
Lerner was a leader in the Berkeley student movement and the Free Speech Movement, chair of the Free Student Union, and chair from 1966-1968 of the Berkeley chapter of the Students for a Democratic Society.

Listen Up! Sacramento is happy to present Amiah. She is a young lady with an amazing voice that may make you think you're listening to a seasoned performer. At the young age of 9 she began her singing career and now, at age 13 she performs for Listen Up! Sacramento. Her voice is reminiscent of Sinead O'Conner in it's subtle, yet powerful tones and her style and influence is inspired by Katy Perry and other in popular music. She is famous for using a plastic cup as an instrument and we know you will enjoy her singing.
