Lawmakers Support Filmmakers With Modified Assembly Bill 1839
Assembly Bill 1839 is working its way through the system at the State Capitol, and has achieved compromise agreements with both the California Legislature and Governor Jerry Brown in support of tax incentives and other benefits to support filmmaking in California.
Assembly Bill 1839 would renew California's tax incentives for an additional five years through the 2021-22 fiscal year. The modified package is worth $330-million and triples the amount of money historically provided.
It also changes the way the money is allocated. Instead of being a lottery, the money will tied directly to the number of jobs being created. The rules are designed to bring film production back to our state and to bolster the California economy.
With the Senate and Governor on board last week, the CA Assembly Saturday also voted approval of the amendments, which means it's back to the Governor's desk, who has until the end of September to sign the bill.
For complete text and information on AB 1839, please refer to the following link, which also allows you to track the bill: Assembly Bill 1839
