Free Access Sacramento Orientation Class
Aug. 27th at 6pm
Access Sacramento's holds free Orientation Sessions twice every month on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday at 6pm in Sacramento's Coloma Community Center.
Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little more than an hour. The orientation class is also a required step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.
The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as providing a tour of the radio and TV studios and digital media lab.
All classes are on a first come, first serve basis so signing up right away is crucial. Mark your calendars for the final listings of the Orientation class!

Sac VIPs Meeting Aug. 27th
The Sacramento Video Industry Professionals (VIPs) will be holding a meeting on Aug. 27th at 7pm, at Studio 50.
Mark Herzig will talk about his new documentary film, "Free-Form, Baby!". He'll share how he approached the trailer in terms of selecting shots, getting the short story of the longer story, how he chose what length the trailer should be, how he is marketing it, and he'll share fun tales about filming and editing of the movie.
Dan Fearing, from "the App guys", demos the brilliant new app-"Shot Professional" or "ShotPro" for short. The app guys will be giving away free copies to meeting attendees!

Access Sacramento Looks Ahead
During Board of Directors Retreat
Using words like "Connected," "Excited," and "Exhilarated about the Momentum," the Access Sacramento Board of Director's met Saturday in its annual planning retreat to lay the foundation for the next year.

Meeting at Executive Director Gary Martin's home in Elk Grove, the board spent a large portion of the day in a training session about fund raising presented by Allison Cagley, a Certified Fund Raising Executive. The board hopes to optimize its efforts surrounding the "Place Called Sacramento" Film Festival Oct. 5 and the "Sacramento Has Talent" show next April.
The board also spent time examining its marketing strategies, and the opportunities the launch of KUBU-LP 96.5 FM will bring.
Access Sacramento is a non-profit 501(c)3 community foundation operating cable channels 17 and 18, and providing training and equipment resources that help Sacramento County residents put their "Voice" into the community.
Primarily funded by grants from the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission, Access Sacramento must fund raise the balance of its budget to finance a variety of program services including its new website AccessLocal.TV and its community event coverage Hometown TV and Game of the Week.

WAVE AWARD ENTRIES
DUE MONDAY

Submissions for WAVE Awards are due by Monday, August 25th. Community producers who feel they have an especially good program from the last year are encouraged to enter.
Access Sacramento had 12 nominations and six winners last year. The WAVE awards recognize quality access programs from from Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, New Mexico, and California and include Public, Government, and Educational Programming from Community Media Centers in all the states listed.

Filmmaker Mobilization Day
State Capitol Tomorrow at 11:30 am
A rally to support Assembly Bill 1839, will be held in front of the capital on Wednesday from 11:30am - 2:00pm. This will be the final opportunity to gather and show your support for this bill before it goes to the final votes.
Assembly Bill 1839, if passed, would renew California's tax incentives for an additional five years, through the 2021-22 fiscal year.
The legislation would also lift a $75 million budget cap on productions that are eligible for the program while making all network and cable dramas eligible too.

Sacramento Black Book Fair TV Cablecast Schedule
This First Sacramento Black Book Fair, recorded on June 6th, was a panel discussion that featured authors William Strickland, Carlos Moore and Denise Nicholas.
William Strickland is the famous author of Frantz Fanon: His Life and Work, International Tribute to Frantz Fanon, U.N. Headquarters, and Malcolm X: Make it Plain.
Carlos Moore wrote many different titles including African Presence in the Americas and Were Marx and Engels Racists? - The Prolet-Aryan Outlook of Marx and Engels.
Denise Nicholas is the author of Freshwater Road but is known for acting in various films and TV programs.

Interfaith Iftar 2014

The Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims, SALAM, are the hosts for a unique Iftar; breaking of the Ramadan fast. In the Islamic faith, Ramadan is a sacred month of spiritual enlightenment, charity, self-discipline and self-control.
The majority of people in attendance are not Muslims. For more than 25 years, SALAM has always been inclusive while practicing Islamic beliefs.
This inclusiveness is reflective of the Sacramento community as a whole with its followers of many religions, cultures, ethnic groups and national origins.
