Radio Producers Provide Ideas
for FM Radio Launch
Access Sacramento hosted its annual Radio Producers meeting Friday to provide timeline details on the approaching launch of a low-power FM radio station in midtown Sacramento.
|
The antenna will be placed on top of an existing mast above a downtown office building.
|
Executive Director Gary Martin explained that equipment purchasing for the transmitter, antenna and other technology would occur later this month and in August with installation and testing proceeding through September. If the process stays on time, an official ribbon-cutting launch is likely at the start of October.
Click for KUBU-LP's Official Facebook webpage.
Radio Coordinator Shane Carpenter explained that Access Sacramento's FCC-Approved Construction permit allows for over-the-air testing, so producers will be able to broadcast as soon as basic engineering tests are complete.
Radio Producers offered ideas about promoting the new station, and suggested how remote broadcasts from the community would increase awareness, and suggested ideas for fundraising through additional underwriting and a possible temporary producer membership fee increase.
|
Access Sacramento's Live Studio 2 was fully remodeled in December in preparation for the KUBU-LP launch.
|
Access Sacramento's "The Voice" broadcasting service has been in operation since the late 80's as the audio background to community messages on the cable channels, as Channel 17 & 18's "Language 2" during regular programming, and more recently, also can be heard as an internet stream.
When KUBU-LP launches on 96.5 FM, its over-the air reach from downtown will reach approximately 5 miles in every direction: Sleep Train Arena in the north, Sac State in the East, Florin Road in the South and West Sacramento in the West. .

Film Festival Welcomes New Filmmaker to the Festival
"Parkway" by David M. Schwartz
With a little more than eight weeks before the 10 films must be completed for this year's Access Sacramento A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival, we welcome a new PCS Filmmaker to festival.
We are excited to introduce David M. Schwartz, writer of "Parkway" to the PCS Filmmakers circle. He is our newest Filmmaker for this year and is in need of your help. Positions available include a cast of five plus extras as well as some key crew positions.
While we are sad Melody Furry, of "Near Life" won't be able to make her film this summer, we congratulate her on her new job.

Ern is about 55 years old, a Latino born in Fresno, CA. He is an alcoholic who is either drinking or sleeping.
DuWayne, 35 to 40 years old, is an African American alcoholic who suffers from OCD. His "job" is begging at the entrance to one or another office building in downtown.
Noob, 23 to 25 years old, is a disoriented college dropout from Boston, MA, who came to California because his brother is a chef in a Sacramento restaurant. Noob smokes pot and hangs out in the local library when he's not at the Parkway.
Cop, 32 to 40 years old, is a Sacramento County Park Ranger.
Chef, 2 years older than Noob, is Noob's brother. He works in a local restaurant.
