Live July 4th Parade

10:30 a.m.

56th Annual Carmichael Independence Day Parade

Catch the "American-Living the Dream" celebration LIVE when Access Sacramento presents the Carmichael Independence Day Parade LIVE on Channel 17 Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Four separate Color Guards are planned for the 2014 parade. Photo Courtesy: Valcomnews.com

The parade has been hosted and organized by the Carmichael Elks Lodge since the parade's inception more than half a century ago.

This year's grand marshall is Paul Scholl, publisher of the "Carmichael Times" newspaper and other regional papers.  Parade Organizer Jim Warrick says Scholl epitomizes the American Dream as a businessman whose personal success includes promoting the First Amendment.

The parade travels down Fair Oaks Blvd. beginning at Marconi and continuing to Cypress. Thousands annually line the parade route for the festivities.

The broadcast will be anchored by veteran Access Sacramento announcers Will James and Cline Moore, with parade route interviews by Rick Stewart.

Floats and marchers from local businesses, schools and churches are scheduled, plus the always comical Bel Ali Shiners Clowns with a variety of presentations along the parade route.

Classic cars will be seen aplenty, plus many of our local politicians will make their appearance in the parade.

Originally scheduled in 1958 following a deadly car accident the previous year, the Elks Lodge wanted to create a reason for people to stay home--and stay safe.

Access Sacramento invites you to attend the parade, but if you can't, be sure to tune in for the LIVE broadcast from along Fair Oak Blvd.

Green Studio Production Progress

Access Sacramento has been adding Green Studios to various locations in an effort to help local Nonprofits to get their word out.

The Nonprofit Resource Center is our newest location and it had its first recording session last week. The new location was used to create several mini clips, a panel discussion and even a television Interview.

This was the first test run of the Green Studio Tricaster system and, though there were some challenges as always with a pilot broadcast, it was successful.

This will be the first of many recordings to come. Watch channel 17 for upcoming programs about a variety of local Nonprofits.

For more information or to become a sponsor contact Gary Martin, Executive Director of Access Sacramento at Postmaster@AccessSacramento.org and thanks for your continued support and for watching channel 17 and 18.

High School Essay Contest Winners Air Sunday

on Access Sacramento

This year's Physicians for Social Responsibility Scholarship Essay Contest was recorded by a Media Edge crew on April 27, 2014 at the Dante Club in Sacramento.

The winning essays were chosen from entries submitted by greater Sacramento area high school students that reacted to this year's prompt, a quotation from the late South African leader and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Nelson Mandela, who said,

"Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world."

After the 10 finalists read their essays and were questioned by a panel of local community leaders, the authors of the top three essays (as

determined by the panel) earned $3,000, $2,500 and $2,000 scholarships, and the other seven each earned a $1,000 scholarship.

Tune in Sunday at 8pm on Channel 17.  Additional showings on Channel 17 area Monday at noon and Tuesday at 4 a.m.

"Media Edge" offers two hours of in-depth thought-provoking progressive viewpoints every week since April, 2005. "Media Edge" features local productions plus nationally syndicated documentaries not broadcast elsewhere in Sacramento County.
