Annual Funding Renewed!
Thank You Sacramento Metropolitan
Cable Television Commission
The Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission (SMCTC) voted 6-3 renewing Access Sacramento's primary funding in exchange for providing public access programming for Channels 17 and 18 for fiscal year 2014-15.
The Commission provides approximately $500,000 annually to pay for salaries and general operating expenses for classes, workshops, studio space and Hometown TV and Game of the Week.
Access also receives $340,000 from the Commission for rent and other capital outlay costs including cameras, microphones, studio improvements and its two websites: AccessSacramnto.org and AccessLocal.tv.
We are extremely grateful this year for an additional $50,000 from the commission for the launch of Access Sacramento's KUBU-LP 96.5 FM. The transmitter and antenna costs plus associated equipment will be possible in exchange for an agreement to broadcast the Sacramento City Council, Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and SMCTC weekly/monthly meetings. All told, the Commission provides 85% of Access Sacramento's funding.
Another 15% of the annual budget is raised by Access Sacramento itself from membership dues, class fees, grants and two major fundraisers which combined net about $150,000.
Executive Director Gary Martin will present the 2014-15 draft budget during Thursday's monthly business meeting.
