Filmmaker, Gary Nyland
is Preserving State Fair History

My name is Gary Nyland, I'm making a film about the California State Fair and I could use your help.

Under the auspices of Access Sacramento, I'm making a short documentary about the history of the State Fair that will be screened at the Crest Theater in October 2014 as part of the 15th annual Place Called Sacramento film festival.

I'll have a table at the Place Called Sacramento Cast and Crew Call next week where volunteers can become part of the documentary process and also offer any historic photos or memorabilia they might be willing to share.

I'm a Sacramento native and PCS alumni, having made or help make many of the PCS films over the years.

I am searching for images, both still and moving, of a state fair that's been held continuously since 1854. I'm also searching for posters, programs, collectibles, ephemera, news articles and anecdotal remembrances. Happily, Sacramento seems to be the perfect place to research this very popular annual attraction.

Any resources that you can share with me will be greatly appreciated, both by me and by generations of Sacramentans.
