Next Orientation Class is Tonight!

April 8th at 6pm

Access Sacramento's new Orientation classes are tonight, April 8th and Wednesday, April 23rd at 6:00 p.m. 

 

Orientation classes are free and open to the public. They last a little over an hour. This orientation class is also a mandatory step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.   

 

The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as getting a tour of the facility.   

 

Orientations are regularly scheduled on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday of every month. 

 

All classes are on a first come, first serve basis so signing up right away is crucial. Mark your calendars for the final listings of the Orientation class!

Access Sacramento's May-August 2014 class schedule is up and available with new class dates.
 
For new and present members interested in taking classes needed for certification it is strongly recommended that you sign up right away as classes fill up quickly.

Place Called Sacramento
Film Fesitval Scripts
Due This Friday 
 

The deadline for "A Place Called Sacramento" script submission is this Friday, April 11 at noon. To qualify, scripts must arrive at the Access Sacramento office located inside of the Coloma Community Center at 4623 T Street in Sacramento or, for the first time, scripts can be turned in on-line.

 

Turn in your scripts from at 

www.AccessSacramento.org and click on the fish "Quentin Sacramento" for rules and regulations and to download or sign up through the website.

Radio Programming Update

Access Sacramento's The Voice continues going strong and is offering new original programming every month.

According to Access Sacramento Radio Coordinator Shane Carpenter, "We're actually filling up most days with at least 8 hours of programming, but most with far more than that."
 
We are pleased to welcome Dev Burger's "Viewpoint" program that features interviews and music and airs on Sundays at 10am starting on April 13th along with the new program "Fan Radio Show" airing at 11pm on Fridays.
  
"I Have A Word" with Walena Gaspard is already airing on Fridays at 3pm and "Electronic Dance Music" with Molly Lynch returns in the Friday 6pm slot.
 
Lady Jamri returns with "Global Cafe" and moves to her new live slot on Saturdays at 6pm following "Twirl."
 
Access Sacramento is also pleased to welcome back Shane Carpenter's "Shane's World" featuring "art rock" and space/aviation themes, which will air at midnight on Sundays.

Access Staff Travels To Vegas for National Association of Broadcasters' Show

Access Sacramento's Gary Martin, Shane Carpenter, Carlos Hernandez, Richard Langley and Tim Parish are shopping for the best pricing and dale in Las Vegas today at the National Association of Broadcasters' show.

The purpose of the trip is to learn about the latest technology and to find the best dealr. ResearchPis being done for a NewTek Tricaster, remote truck upgrades and anticipated needs for KUBU-LP, our Low-Power FM Radio due for construction in the Fall.
 
This information is critical as Access Sacramento prepares our 2014-15 Budget Proposal to the Sacramento Cable Commission.
 
Carpenter and Parish both report finding several perfect solutions for when Radio Station KUBU, moves toward the next phase in it's construction.

Sacramento County Candidates

for District Attorney Live on Access Sacramento April 16

 

 

 

In partnership with the Sacramento County Bar Association, a live candidate's forum with the three candidates for Sacramento County District Attorney will air on April 16th at 6 p.m.

 

The candidates for District Attorney are Maggy Krell, Todd Leras and Anne Marie

Schubert. The session will be moderated by Capital Public Radio's Beth Ruyak with questions from a panel of judges and professors from McGeorge School of Law.

 

 

 

The forum will be broadcast LIVE on Access Sacramento April 16 at 6 p.m. on Comcast and SureWest Channels 17 and  AT&T U-verse Channel 99. The LIVE session can also be viewed on our website at AccessSacramento.org. Push 'Watch TV 17'.

 Walk and Give on LiveWire!  

Tomorrow at 5 pm

 

 

Go for a walk and show your support for the things and ideas you care about. Our first guest will be talking about "A Walk to Remember" and our second guests are from The Sacramento Region Community Foundation will be on the program to talk about the Day of Giving.

 

Betty Hall, a loving mother who lost her son to war created "A Walk to Remember" to help honor American Heroes. The event was created in honor of Betty's son, Bryan E. Hall. She created the Bryan E. Hall Memorial Education Scholarship fund in his honor. The walk is happening in Elk Grove at the Elk Grove Regional Park on April 12th at 9am followed by a picnic lunch provided to the participants.

You may wish you could volunteer but just cannot find the time; another way to support the things you love about our community can come in the way of a small monetary donation. The Big Day of Giving or "Big DoG" asks you to save the date of May 6th from midnight to midnight to Give Local Now. It is an annual fundraising challenge when just for one day you will be challenged to 'give where your heart is' and donate to your favorite local nonprofit organization or 2. Your donation will matched by generous sponsors on this Day of Giving (up to amount donated for matching) A small donation can go a long way on this special day. Guests from the Sacramento Region Community Foundation will be on the show to share more information.

2014 BIG Day of Giving

On May 6th, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, in partnership with GiveLocalNow, Placer Community Foundation, Yolo Community Foundation, will host the 2014 BIG Day of Giving for our community.
 
 

The BIG Day of Giving is amazing opportunity to raise unrestricted dollars from the greater community to support the work of our local nonprofits. It is also an opportunity to have those donations boosted by a pool of matching dollars!

  

The Sacramento region will join hundreds of community foundations across the country in a 24 hour giving challenge through a national campaign called "GiveLocalAmerica". This unprecedented event is a celebration of giving by many donors, and locally, will not just bring additional funding, but increased awareness of the nonprofit sector who work tirelessly to make our community a better place.

ACM Hometown Media Awards
Deadline for Submission

The deadline for entering submissions for ACM's Hometown Media Awards is April 30th.



The Hometown Media Awards honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on PEG (Public, Educational, Government) access cable television channels. Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way.

The Celestions are a powerhouse whiskey rock group made up of local musicians who have been part of some legendary Sacramento bands that range from punk to metal. Andrew Harrison performs vocals and plays guitar along with guitarist, Curtis Franklin. Jeff Kapellos is on keyboard and Gabe Van Dyke plays the bass. Greg Wellman rocks on percussion. Their tunes will get you rockin' out of your seat and send you into the cosmos.
