We are a free-speech forum that gets you 'access' to popular forms of media so you can do just that. We exist so that you can express yourself and share what you're passionate about on local television and radio. Come to one of our first orientation class of the new year.
Access Sacramento's next Orientation class is Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6:00 p.m. Another is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb.11th at 6:00 p.m.
The classes are free and open to the public. They last a little over an hour. This orientation class is also a mandatory step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.
Sign up now since classes fill up fast. Orientations occur twice a month , usually on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday of each month.
The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as getting a tour of the facility.
The class is taught by our Executive Director, Gary Martin and occasionally by staff persons Michelle Barbaria and Elizabeth Harrison.
All classes are provided on a first come, first serve basis, so take advantage before the classes fill up. You must be a member in order to take our standard classes, but orientation is open to everyone and is the first step in becoming a member of Access Sacramento.
We hope to see you there!

Filmmakers: Outdoor Lighting Tips Presented Jan 29
The next Sacramento Video Industry Professionals (VIP's) meeting features Mike Carroll with tips on "Lighting for the Outdoor Production."
The meeting is next week, Jan. 29 at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) at Studio 50, 3665 Bleckley St. Mather, CA 95655. A $5 entrance fee includes an education, networking, refreshments, and a 'door prize' entry!
Outdoor shooting can pose real challenges. Maybe you want the spectacular intensity of the sun at high noon or the look of sunset's "magic hour." Shooting outdoor night scenes have their own special problems, too.
Come learn how to overcome outdoor lighting problems while creating the mood you want in your production. There will also be a sneak peak at shooting with a Canon 7D DSLR camera.
Carroll has 29 years as a TV news cameraman and in his spare time has written, produced, shot, recorded audio and edited documentary films and feature-length films.
Check out Carroll's books on Amazon.com; "Breaking Into TV News" and "Naked Filmmaking: How To Make A Feature-Length Film - Without A Crew - For $10,000 Or Less."
Another speaker on Jan 29 includes G-Technology representative Mark Anderson with information on his company's amazing hard drives, including a free drive give away.

Top Sacramento Talent Gather April 10 for 2nd Annual "Sacramento Has Talent"
 | 2013 Winner Chris B Fresh |
Singers, bands, dancers and performers of many types are being reviewed for the opportunity to appear in this televised one-time benefit performance.
Performers based in the Sacramento area who would like to be considered should send contact information and a web link to a video-audition that demonstrates the quality of their stage performances through the Access Sacramento website CONTACT page.
A one-time only open audition for singers will be held March 8 at the Access Sacramento TV Studio, 4623 T Street, Sacramento from 9 a.m. to noon. Details of the a cappella audition-format will be available at the Access Sacramento website on Feb. 8.
The "Sacramento Has Talent" fundraiser benefits teenagers being trained as journalists in Access Sacramento's Neighborhood News Bureau program. The young people learn reporting skills for print and broadcast, with their articles and videos appearing on the AccessLocal.tv website.
In addition, Access Sacramento will present its second "Power of Voice" award to newly retired Sacramento Bee assistant editor and editorial writer Ginger Rutland for her dedication to the community through outspoken advice, criticism and direction on the editorial pages of the Sacramento Bee for more than two decades. Her editorial supporting Access Sacramento in the early 2000's was critical in preventing a funding cut that would have seriously curtailed free speech activities in Sacramento County.
Now in its second year, the premiere talent show in 2013 brought 11 performances and one film to the stage in competition in front of three judges and more than 600 fans.
Last year's winner, Chris Barron, known as Chris B Fresh, dances across the stage in this VIDEO link.
A major sponsor this year's competition through its support of the Neighborhood News Program is the California Endowment, a foundation that supports health education and medical and lifestyle improvements in targeted areas of California including the South Sacramento and Oak Park areas.

Writer and Comic Author Joins Access Sacramento Board of Directors
Access Sacramento welcomed a new member to the board of directors last week with the appointment of volunteer Eben E. B. Burgoon.
Eben E.B. Burgoon has been writing short fiction, sketch comedy, and spec scripts for more than a decade.
The past six years, he has been focusing on writing comic books, and co-created Eben07: Covert Custodian, an espionage-humor webcomic about the janitors who clean the mess left behind by super-spies, and now is focused on his new project, B-Squad: Soldiers of Misfortune, which follows the ongoing adventures of a misfit group of mercenaries sent on equally dangerous and ridiculous missions.
Burgoon is an avid lover of animation, television, and film. By joining Access Sacramento's board, his hope is to continue their tradition of giving new voices and sources of creativity an avenue for distribution and help reach new parts of the community by bringing his experience, fun-nature, and creative spirit to the board.
Read more about Burgoon in profile on the AccessLocal.TV website HERE.
Access Sacramento welcomes Burgoon and encourages others who might be interested in served on the Access Sacramento Board of Directors to contact Board Chair JoAnn Fuller or Executive Director Gary Martin for an application.

Low-Power FM Radio License on Track
Access Sacramento's license application to run a low-power FM radio station should be granted soon after Feb. 14.
As a singleton applicant for the frequency 96.5 FM, Access Sacramento's paperwork has been "Accepted for Filing" which means all of the engineering data is approved for the proposed broadcast site in midtown Sacramento.
Once approved and built, the LPFM station would reach from approximately West Sacramento to Sacramento State in the east, and from Sleep Train Arena in North Natomas to Florin Road in the south.
Overall, all applications in America remain in a holding pattern for another three weeks while the Media Bureau of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) allows groups who have applied for the same frequency to attempt to negotiate a solution on how to proceed.
Between now and Feb. 14, applicants can also file minor changes in their engineering specifications.
In Sacramento, for example, both the Process Theater, Inc . and the Sacramento Blues Society applied for the frequency 93.3 FM, but a settlement letter was submitted to the FCC, and Process Theater, Inc. was "Accepted for Filing" and the Sacramento Blues Society's paperwork was dismissed.
This type of negotiation is typical and will continue through the middle of next month.
