We are a free-speech forum that gets you 'access' to popular forms of media so you can do just that. We exist so that you can express yourself and share what you're passionate about on local television and radio. Did you know that as a member of Access Sacramento you get one hour of airtime each month? Did you know that members get to use most of our equipment for free? Want to know more? Come to one of our first orientation class of the new year.

Access Sacramento's next Orientation class is tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6:00 p.m.  Another is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6:00 p.m.

The classes are free and open to the public. They last a little over an hour. This orientation class is also a mandatory step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.

Sign up now since classes fill up fast. Orientations occur twice a month on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednes and our next orientation class will not take place until January 2014.

The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as getting a tour of the facility.

The class is taught by our Executive Director, Gary Martin and occasionally by staff persons Michelle Barbaria and Elizabeth Harrison.

All classes are provided on a first come, first serve basis, so take advantage before the classes fill up. You must be a member in order to take our standard classes, but orientation is open to everyone and is the first step in becoming a member of Access Sacramento.

We hope to see you there!

Low-Power FM Application Comment Period Closes

License approval is expected any day on Access Sacramento's application to operate a low-power FM (LPFM) radio station from downtown Sacramento.

Radio DJ Leon Reyes on the air with his program "Salso Con Sabor"

A 30-day public comment period closed Sunday without any filings being posted on the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) website.

"Getting a license is essentially a done-deal now," said Shane Carpenter, Access Sacramento's radio coordinator.  "After creating radio programming for more than 25 years on cable television, it's exciting to think we'll actually be on over-the-air radio later this year."

Once a license is granted, Access Sacramento will file for a construction permit with the FCC.  This process specifies additional details about where equipment will be placed and how the station will be built.

Access Sacramento's application predicts placement of the transmitter and antenna in downtown Sacramento, and the building owner has provided a "Letter of Reasonable Assurance" to demonstrate a good-faith intention to allow the new station to be built on the building's existing tower.

"We already have nearly 60 radio producers and shows being created each week for our Cable TV and internet broadcasting," said JoAnn Fuller, Chair of the Access Sacramento Board of Directors. "So we know Access would easily be able to provide 12 hours of good original programming every day once we get our license."

"Place Called Sacramento" Film Festival Approaching 15th Year Launch

15th "Place Called Sacramento" planning meeting with (From Left) Otie Biondi, Michelle Barbaria, Liz Harrison and Gary Martin.

The Access Sacramento 15th Annual "Place Called Sacramento" Film Festival instructions will be released in the next few weeks.

Access Sacramento staff are preparing the documents now that will be revealed on the Access Sacramento website in an official launch of the 15th script competition and Film Festival in the first week of February.

The festival's first step is a script writing competition with the collection of scripts for 10-minute short films that are focused on the people, places and stories associated with the Sacramento area.

Ten original screenplays will be selected for production during the summer, with the 10 films having their world premiere on the first weekend of October.

Since the festival's creation in 2000, a total of 139 films have been produced showcasing the good work by Sacramento area screenplay writers, producers, directors and actors.

Access Sacramento organizer Michelle Barbaria encourages those interested in submitting a screenplay to begin putting together their ideas in anticipation of this year's festival.

Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week

The first live coverage in 2014 of Access Sacramento's Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week promises to be saturated with ultra-high intensity and explosive action when long-time area juggernaut Sheldon journeys from South Sacramento to Carmichael to square-off with Delta River League rival, Jesuit.

This premium telecast will air Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. on Comcast/SureWest Cable Channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 99.

Tune in tonight at 7pm for taped game coverage from Saturday of Girl's high school basketball featuring St. Francis vs. Christian Brothers.

In Friday's upcoming LIVE game, the host Marauders have a lot at stake in this blockbuster match-up, placing their #2 ranking and undefeated (17-0) record on the line against its long-time nemesis, in a concerted effort to lift the specter of a

nine-game losing streak against 8th-rated Sheldon.

Joey Rollings' (6-8) Huskies, are paced by point guard Devin Greene and veteran forward Ian Miller, while Greg Harcos employs the triangulated firepower of guard Nick Hilton and forwards Lake Lutes and Isaiah Bailey to key Jesuit's offense.

This clash marks the first of two DRL showdowns between the two area powerhouses, and is certain to draw a capacity crowd and deliver countless prime-time plays for the highlight reel.

The game replays on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. and again on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
