The class is taught by our Executive Director, Gary Martin and occasionally by staff persons Michelle Barbaria and Elizabeth Harrison.

All classes are provided on a first come, first serve basis, so take advantage before the classes fill up. You must be a member in order to take our standard classes, but orientation is open to everyone and is the first step in becoming a member of Access Sacramento.

Happy Holidays!

  candy-cane-sm.jpg

On behalf of Access Sacramento, the Board of Directors, staff, members and volunteers, I would like to wish you the very best this holiday season can bring.

In this season when it's common to share gifts and bring into stronger focus the good things that surround us, let me say "Thank You" for those in our community who bring their messages to Access Sacramento for use on our cable channels, radio broadcasts and internet distribution.

While many large and small cities have seen their public access broadcast stations disappear since 2008 (about 70 in California alone), we here in Sacramento County enjoy broad support from our community.

That support is echoed financially by the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission through annual funding that provides the primary means for keeping your voice alive in Sacramento County and the cities of Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Folsom, Elk Grove and Galt.

Here at Access Sacramento, we are grateful for your on-going support and for all those members who take the time to create and deliver their programs for playback in Sacramento County.

It is the very foundation of a strong democracy when government allows its citizens to be heard; we at Access Sacramento are glad to be a strong partner in providing that service.

In this holiday season and as we begin 2014, Access Sacramento wishes you a year filled with health, happiness and prosperity.

Gary Martin

Executive Director

Wanted: Tomorrow's Storytellers

Outreach for Youth Neighborhood News Correspondents

young-women-laptop.jpg

AccessLocal.tv is looking for Sacramento residents between the ages of 16-21 who wants to join our "Neighborhood News Correspondents" team. Details below...

Curiosity. Determination.

There is so much more going on in the city of Sacramento than what we see on the nightly news. Beyond the crime and the drama, there are the stories of real people making a real difference right now in our neighborhoods and throughout our communities. For a number of various reasons, those stories more often than not are overlooked, leaving the casual observer with a distorted view of our world.

That's where we come in.

AccessLocal.TV is a website where the people and groups in Sacramento who are working hard to improve our community come together to share our stories. It's the place where your voice counts. It's a place where young people can express their views and be heard. And we're looking for new team members for our Neighborhood News Correspondents program right now.

Are you what we're looking for?

We are looking for young people between the ages of 16-21 who can express their thoughts both with the written word and through other forms of digital media to tell the tale of modern day Sacramento. If this is something you think you can do, and want to be a part this exciting project, contact us today.

For more information send an email to [email protected] today.

Local Teen Bands Air in TV Start-Up Concert

Skip's Music 2013 Stairway to Stardom top band War Paint.

Young non-professional musicians perform in a televised Hometown TV rock concert on Access Sacramento, Comcast & SureWest channel 17 and AT&T U-verse channel 99.

The broadcast documents the finale of the annual Skip's Music 2013 "Stairway to Stardom" youth training and performance summer program.

Fourteen new bands consisting of vocalists, guitar and keyboard players, and drummers are assembled in early summer and then grouped into performance groups. After eight weeks of training, they performed in a concert at the Crest Theater.

Access Sacramento presents the best of that concert with one song per group in a TV program that will air through the rest of this month.

All of the songs were written by these newly formed music groups under the guidance of music coaches provided by Skip's Music.

When you watch the program look for the top three bands selected on the day of the concert: 1st Place - War Paint; 2nd Place - Contrast; and 3rd Place - Failed Diplomacy.

Air Dates on Channel 17

Sunday, December 29th @ 2:00pm

Monday, December 30th @ 6:00am

The Access Sacramento Hometown TV crew documented top beginner rock bands at the 33rd annual Skip's Music "Stairway to Stardom" competition at the downtown Crest Theatre earlier this year.

All 11 competing bands perform and are interviewed on the program. Judges selected "War Paint" for first place, "Contrast" for second place, and "Failed Diplomacy" for 3rd place.

The competition began when musicians were auditioned, placed with other beginners, and then challenged to collaborate, write their own songs, and prepare three original compositions to present on stage in front of judges, fans and TV cameras.

The 2-part DVD showcases each band's performance and features exclusive interviews with the performers and their coach. The program includes at least one song from each band and features many musical styles.

Enjoy the Stairway to Stardom experience now! Buy the 2-part DVD at Access Sacramento for only $30. You can place an order over the phone by calling the  Front Office at (916) 456-8600 Ext: 0.
