Last Chance this Year!

Are you a Sacramento County resident who wants to share your thoughts, opinions, and ideas on local television or radio? Consider joining Access Sacramento! We are a free-speech forum that gets you 'access' to popular forms of media so you can do just that. We exist so that you can express yourself and share what you're passionate about on local television and radio. Did you know that as a member of Access Sacramento you get one hour of airtime each month? Did you know that members get to use most of our equipment for free? Want to know more? Come to our last orientation class of the year.

Access Sacramento's Orientation class meets on Wednesday, December 18 at 6pm.

The class is free and open to the public. It will last a little over an hour. It is also a mandatory step in becoming an Access Sacramento member and should be taken at your earliest convenience.

Sign up now as classes fill up fast and our next orientation class will not take place until January 2014.

The Orientation Class will give you a chance to ask questions and learn about our services and what we provide to the community and its members. We also will go over the standard classes we offer and member benefits as well as getting a tour of the facility.

The class is taught by our Executive Director, Gary Martin and occasionally by staff persons Michelle Barbaria and Elizabeth Harrison.

All classes are provided on a first come, first serve basis, so take advantage before the classes fill up. You must be a member in order to take our standard classes, but orientation is open to everyone and is the first step in becoming a member of Access Sacramento.

We hope to see you there!

Want Your Event to be on TV?

Apply for Coverage

Access Sacramento regularly televises community events like stage shows, guest speakers, awards banquets, parades and sporting events as part of a Hometown TV grant from the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission.

The events are selected from applications sent in by event organizers from non-profit community groups, typically six to eight weeks in advance.

The application is available from the Access Sacramento website by pushing the button, "Hometown TV - Your Event on Cable.

Hometown TV crew at the Asian Performing Arts Festival (from left) Director Dev Singh, Engineer Richard Langley, Camera operators Danny Mendonsa and Bruce Riggs, Audio Engineer Thorunn Gudjonsdottir, Camera operator Adrian Gonzalez and Access Sacramento Board of Directors member Edgar Calderon.
If selected, Access Sacramento's remote television production truck will roll in complete with multiple cameras, audio equipment and a mini TV control room for use in capturing your event for broadcast on television.

On a normal schedule, the production equipment and supporting crew members arrive approximately four hours before the event starts to lay power and camera cables, to place microphones or test a feed from the event's audio mixer, and to make sure everything is working before the public arrives.

In most cases, some minor editing is done to connect the different segments of a production, although in very rare cases an event is covered LIVE on our channels. The Elk Grove Western Festival parade and the Galt Independence Day parades were both broadcast live in 2013.

If your event is selected, the value of the Access Sacramento's in-kind donation is typically valued at between $2,000 and $2,500 depending on the number of staff needed to support the event.

In return, Access Sacramento requests the sponsoring group provide appropriate ad space in their printed program (if there is one,) and that the group provide the TV crew a picnic lunch midday.

The Hometown TV grant is what also pays for Access Sacramento's production of the regular Game of the Week broadcast of high school and college sports.

Since the beginning of our fiscal year July 1, 2013, Access Sacramento crews have covered a variety of topics and events including: Sacramento's "Dialogue on Mental Health," the Tejano Conjunto Music festival, an unemployment seminar, highlights of the Metro Chambers Small Business Expo, Skip's Music Stairway to Stardom Teen Band Competition, presenters at the Asian Pacific Islanders American Voter Education day, a United Nation's guest speaker, the kickoff of  Runaway and Homeless Youth month, and the Asian Performing Arts Festival, among others.

If you have questions about whether your event might be appropriate for a Hometown TV grant, please call Access Sacramento Executive Director Gary Martin at 916-456-8600 ext. 100
