"2014 Calendars Are Here!"

 

We can hardly believe it! The Access Sacramento 2014 calendars are here. The New Year is around the corner and you can get your free calendar at Access Sacramento (limit one per person).

 

We have four styles to choose from including classic images from artist, Norman Rockwell. We also have beautiful images of "Celebration of African-American Art" by various artists, majestic images of America, and also lush scenes of California.

 

Items are limited and subject to a first come, first serve basis. Come into the Access Sacramento Main Office during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m and 6 p.m. to pick up your copy.

"Office Hours Are Changing"

 

Access Sacramento's Main Office hours will change beginning Nov. 1, 2013. 

 

The new hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you need to sign up or re-new your membership you must be in the office by 5:30 p.m. If you regularly drop off programs and/or need to upload your program after the 6 p.m. closing, you may do so in the Production Office.  

 

The Production office will remain open until 9:00 p.m. Please allow enough time to upload your program and be completed by 8:45 p.m. since the building closes promptly at 9 p.m.  

 

Media lab hours are currently the same, but look here for new extended Media Lab hours soon.

Named Finalists for Western U.S. Excellence Awards

The top public access videos from the Western United States include finalists in 12 categories from Access Sacramento.

 

The finalists are in competition to be the best in their category and to win a 2013 Western Access Video Excellence (WAVE)  award at this year's ceremony Oct. 26 in San Jose.

 

The WAVE awards recognize the best in public access programming from Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico.

 

To see the finalists' videos, push the name of the show in blue. 

 

The Northern California Filmmakers Coalition in partnership with Access Sacramento is a finalist in the Educational Access professional category for an episode of the TV program Sacramento Filmworks titled "The Right Camera in Action".  

 

Access Sacramento staff member Steven Bourasa was nominated in the Informational Activities professional category for Imagine This...Stories Inspired by Agriculture 2012.

    

Access Sacramento Livewire Producer Michelle Barbaria and Co-Producer, Liz Harrison were nominated in the Talk Show-Entertainment Professional category for Livewire! Vegetarian Conquest.

   

Access Sacramento Director of Operations and Training Dev Singh was nominated in the Performing Arts professional category for TV coverage this year of the broadcast of an Access Sacramento fund raiser:Sacramento Has Talent.  The 2nd annual program is being planned for April, 2014.   

Access Sacramento Executive Director Gary Martin and Executive Producer of Game of the Week Will James were nominated in the Sport Coverage professional category for TV coverage of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Boys Basketball Burbank vs Antelope.

 

Access Sacramento Director of Operations and Training Dev Singh and Executive Director Gary Martin were nominated in the Live or Live to Tape professional category for TV coverage this year of the Annual Pig Bowl football game.

 

Access Producer and host Bob Crimmins, and co-producer Steve Beck from the "Living in the West" show is a finalist in the Documentary Issues-Community Producer for his episode focusing on the Bear Flag Revolt.

 

Several 2012 A Place Called Sacramento films are also finalists.  Writer-Producer Christa Bella's film " The Bracero Brothers" is a finalist in two categories: Entertainment and Documentary Events. And Writer-Producer Rocky Regino and Co-Producer Zachary Barnes are finalists in Entertainment-Professional with the film "Last Chance."

 

Access Sacramento program producer Leonid Istrati's program "Grace Family Church" is a finalist in the Inspirational / Religious Community Producer category.

 

The WAVE awards are presented annually in 29 categories. The winners will be announced during the Alliance for Community Media Western Region conference in San Jose Oct. 26. Tickets ares still available from that website-- Read more below.

The ACM West & WAVE Awards

 

Western Access Video Excellence Awards will be showcasing Access Sacramento's best work along with other community media producers in the Alliance for Community Western Region's six states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico. 

 

Winners will be featured at the Wave Awards Ceremony during the Alliance for Community Media Western Region's conference, October 24-26 in San Jose, CA.

 

You can still register for the conference and attend the WAVE Awards ceremony Oct 24-26, 2013. The WAVE Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 6pm-8pm. Conference information, prices and registration are at ACMWEST.org


DVD And Blu-Ray Disks For

PCS Film Festival Are Available

 

The Place Called Sacramento film festival this year marked new ground technically by being mastered as a Blu-Ray disk for the highest quality display.

 

Access Sacramento director of operations and training Dev Singh and digital media coordinator Bhim Kumar-Reyes received the 10 PCS films in time to have the high definition computer video files recompressed for output into the Blu-Ray video format.

 

Compared to a standard DVD, a Blu-Ray disk is able to put four-times the amount of data out to the projector or TV giving exceptional image quality.

 

Both DVD and Blu-Ray disks with the 10 films from the Place Called Sacramento Film Festival are available for purchase with a credit card by calling the Access Sacramento office at 916-456-8600 extention 0.

 

 


"Game-of-the-Week Returns to Historic Site Live Friday 7 pm"

Home Town Sports

 

Following a four-year absence from sports coverage at historic Hughes Stadium, Access Sacramento returns to the big house Friday night where the

Christian Brothers Falcons host the Rio Linda Knights in a battle of co-favorites to capture the Capital Valley Conference crown.

Tune to Access Sacramento on Comcast or SureWest Cable channel 17 or AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 at 7 p.m. Friday night. 

 

The rushing tandem of HB Marcel Brown and FB Leonard Skattebo spark the Knights who enter play at 5-1, winners of five straight games and currently rated #11 in the latest "Dimino's Dozen" football rankings.

 

On the flip side, George Petrissans' 19th-ranked Falcons bring a 4-2 mark into the game, and feature the explosive tandem of QB Chris Guillen and RB Mason Stahley who have accounted for 18 touchdowns.

 

This one will surely materialize into an exciting, intense battle filled with highlight plays; on display in the recently-adorned, and now pristine, Hughes Stadium.  Enjoy the view.

Folsom holds #1 Rank in Game of the Week Broadcast

#1 Folsom Bulldogs successfully defended their home turf against the invasion of the #4 Oak Ridge Trojans last Friday on the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week.  Both teams entered the game undefeated with identical 5-0 records.

During the opening kick-off, Folsom's Wide Receiver Cole Thompson return the ball for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs an early 6-0 lead.  

 

Oak Ridge defense intercepted five of Folsom's QB Jake Browning's Passes. Defensive back Trojan Drew Lackowski picked off two of the five as well as a fumble recovery.

 

Despite six turnovers by Folsom Bulldogs, they were able to defeated Oak Ridge, 35-0. The Folsom Bulldogs are currently ranked 17th on the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National football rankings.

"Nightlife and Culture"

 

Sacramento has so many wonderful things you can do. Our guests tomorrow Live at 5 p.m. include a fashion masquerade and an intriguing play.

Our first set of guests are throwing a masquerade ball benefiting the Mustard Seed School. The Moonlight Extreme Masquerade & Competition features fashion, fun and music. The event will feature music by Rae Rock and Miss Brandy among others. It's happening Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Sky Room at Country Club Lanes in Sacramento.

Also appearing on LiveWire tomorrow are guests who will performing in the play "Buried Child" by Sam Shepard. The play delves into the matters of pursuing the American Dream and how one family reacts when it doesn't work the way they thought it would. Our newest schedule is out and classes have been added. If you are already a member of Access Sacramento and your membership is up to date you can call and sign up over the phone using your credit card. If you are interested in becoming a member of Access Sacramento and would like to take the classes you must come and sign up in person for your membership. Orientation happens once or twice each month and is a good place to start. It is mandatory to attend one and it is free. You do not need to be a member to attend Orientation. You must be a member of Access Sacramento in order to take the other classes.
