World Premiere Sunday - 10 "Place Called Sacramento" Films

Access Sacramento presents 10 world premiere films Sunday at 1 p.m. in the 14th Annual Place Called Sacramento Film Festival at the historic Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento.

Ten original films feature stories, locations, actors and technical crews from the Sacramento area.  Tickets are available from Tickets.com for $10.  The box office ticket-line on Sunday can be long, so advance ticket purchases are recommended.Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the show starts promptly at 1 p.m.

The stories involve unique character studies, fanciful pets and their owners, and even a science fiction extravaganza that's filled with special effects.

Writer/Actor Marc Gardner's film "The Within," directed by Dennis Glasco, has a movie trailer sample of his film available on YouTube.

Festival Co-organizer Michelle Barbaria described this year's line up of family friendly stories as being particularly strong.  This year's films make a total of 139 completed films since the first festival in 2000.

The festival is the final step in what began as a script writing competition earlier this year. Access Sacramento started accepting scripts as early as January. Ten screenplays were selected as the best, and the writers turned into producers. Others also turned into directors and actors over the summer with the task of turning their script into an on-screen film.

These movies are unique for Sacramento because, besides being filmed in this area, they also involve Sacramento camera operators, lighting directors, audio engineers and story editors.  All of the films will air on Access Sacramento and will be featured as links from the www.AccessSacramento.org and http://AccessLocal.tv websites.

After the films show on the big screen, the audience is invited to vote and select the "Audience  Favorite" award.  The 10  film Producers also complete a vote of their own and select the "Producers' Favorite" award.

Besides the 10 festival films, a new filmmaking group, the Northern California Filmmaker's Coalition that meets at Access Sacramento will premiere its short film, "Marcus' Coffee Habit" as warm-up for the audience.  Festival activities begin promptly at 1 p.m.

Film titles alphabetically are:

2014 Program Schedule for Channel 18 Reset
Channel 18 program providers await their turn to select a time slot for 2014.
Nearly 20 of the contracted program providers for Access Sacramento's Channel 18 participated in the 2014 program position lottery last Tuesday at the Coloma Community Center studios. The lottery is an annual event that gives all series providers an opportunity to personally select their time slot for the upcoming year.

As one of Sacramento County's public access channels, the lottery for Channel 18 times slots is held in late September so the programmers can notify their viewers of any change before the start of the year.

One series provider expressed enjoyment in attending the lottery, "because you get a chance to see the faces" of all the other producers and to see that there area others enjoying participation on the channel as well.

"Words to Live By" program provider Gregory James places his program's name on the board to claim Wednesday's at 6pm for the 2014 calendar year.

Approximately 60 contracted series program commitments are hosted on channel 18 each year. Attendance is never mandatory and  all primetime  time slots are available for selection.  Series program names are drawn randomly for rank order selection of the available time slots.

Notification letters will be sent in the next few weeks to program providers who did not attend the lottery. The year's programming line up will be finalized over the next two months.

The results of the lottery go into effect beginning Jan. 2, 2014 and will continue through Jan 1, 2015.  The next Channel 18 Series Lottery will be Sept. 23, 2014.

See VIDEO Highlights from the Rocklin at Inderkum "Game of the Week"
Inderkum Safety Larry Hardy prevents a TD with an end zone interception. Later Hardy catches a TD pass for Inderkum's only score.

In its premiere appearance on Game of the Week, the Rocklin Thunder dominated the field, staying on offense four times longer the the Inderkum Tigers, defeating the Natomas area school 19-7 Friday night.

Access Sacramento announcers Will James and Jim Dimino call the highlights. Click here to watch.

Rocklin racked up 36:18 in ball control time to Inderkum 9:42, but that didn't mean the Thunder could rack up early points.

Inderkum held Rocklin to just two field goals the the first half and then stunned the Thunder with a 30-yard CJ Spencer TD pass to Larry Hardy with just three-seconds left in the half to tie the game.

A successful PAT kick made it 7-6, and Inderkum took the lead to the halftime locker room.

Although he didn't pick up a TD himself, Rocklin running back Evyn Holtz did the bulk of the work, carrying the football 36 times for 152 yards.  That accounted for nearly half of Rocklin's impressive 352 yards in total offense on 70 plays.  Inderkum had 185 yards on 37 plays.

The third quarter though was all Rocklin.  Besides piling on the Time of Possession numbers, the Thunder also  piled on the points with drives of 65 and 23 yards.

Rocklin's quarterback Logan Webb marshalled the Thunder to 352 yards in total offense, bringing his team to 3-2 overall

Two TD passes from Rocklin quarterback Logan Webb to receivers Andrew Castle and Skyler Gonzalez completed the scoring.

Webb was nine for 17  and 118 yards in the air, hitting his top receiver Greg Sorenson four times for 79 of those yards.
