"A Place Called Sacramento" Turns In Films Next Tuesday

It's been an exciting summer with ups and downs for the Filmmakers, but mostly ups. During the summer 10 films have been in production around Sacramento County and on location on the outskirts of town. Each of the films have faced their share of challenges as well as the exhilaration of completing each task required to make a film. Most of the films are now in their last week of Post Production with a few last minute fixes here and there.

"Running Into Traffic" has been putting final touches on their film and is now in post production.

"Resolution" is in it's end stages of editing and is ready to be put into it's final format. It's  putting the icing on the cupcake.

"To Pith or Not to Pith; That is the Question (an entomologic fantasy) " has completed all of it's pick up shots and celebrated with a cast pizza party.

"The Tailypo" added some final touches last week after filming their  last couple of pick up shots and is working hard to keep the secret of what's in the mysterious box that is the 'shiny object' of the film.

"The Lottery Ticket" filmed it's final scene in a local market thanks to some great networking from friends and family. It went into post-production a couple of weeks ago.

"The Players" has been filming at pool playing hot spots around town and cleaning up some audio. They are just about ready to turn in their finalized film.

"The Within" has been working hard at editing and adding their cool F/X. They are even promoting the film online with teaser trailers and fun extras.

"Off the Mark" just finished filming early this month after a tromp around midtown filming at various locations. They are now in post-production.

"American River" suffered a few bumps in the road with scheduling, but are recovering quickly from lost production time. They are now in the home stretch.

"Scratch" is just one of the many film and entertainment projects the Ian and the Wynton Family has completed this summer and their family efforts are showing fruition while they prepare for their final rendering of the film.

All the films will be showcased at "A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival" at the Crest Theatre on Sunday, October 6th at 1pm.

The PCS Film Festival likes to share other good works and organizations at the festival. In the past we had featured other short films, improve groups, and poets.  This year there is going to be a special presentation of the first local short film produced by the Northern California Filmmakers Coalition.

It is called "Marcus' Coffee Habit" and it was written and produced by Wanda Meadors who is part of the NCFC. You'll need to come to the festival to see it's premiere on the big screen.

Tickets will be available soon through Tickets.com and the Crest Box Office. There will be tickets available at the door the day of the event as well. Tickets are $10 for all seats and seating is first come, first served.

This is a fundraising event for Access Sacramento and the Neighborhood News Youth Correspondents for AccessLocal.tv. Please share with your friends and family. All ages are welcome.

Game of the Week Resumes Live Friday with Top-15 Match Up

For just the fourth time ever, and in their first meeting since 2011, two of the newer schools in the Sac-Joaquin Section are ready to square-off again in a provocative season's opener live Friday at 7 p.m. on Access Sacramento.  The visiting  Inderkum Tigers of Natomas travel south to meet the Monterey Trail Mustangs of Elk Grove.  That's where Access Sacramento unveils its season-opening live telecast of the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week, the first of 11 consecutive Friday night, regular-season football games in Sacramento County.

The games can be seen on Comcast and SureWest cable Channel 17 and AT&T U-Verse channel 99. The broadcasts are also live streamed on the web from www.accesssacramento.org. Push Watch TV 17.

Both schools were dedicated in 2005; Inderkum then playing in the Golden Empire League, and Monterey Trail in the Sierra Foothill League.  Each of the varsity programs is driven by highly competitive and highly successful head coaches. Terry Stark guides the Tigers, while T.J. Ewing is at the helm for the Mustangs.

Stark's Tigers hold a two-game-to-one lead in the short but still developing rivalry.  In the first-ever meeting in 2005, Inderkum rolled to a decisive 41-8 victory at Monterey Trail.  Ewing's Mustangs avenged that loss in 2010 and tied the series with a 35-20 triumph at Inderkum.  The following year the Tigers re-gained the lead in the series, coming from behind to prevail 17-6 in a rugged defensive game, setting the stage for another intense and exciting battle in the 4th clash between these two Top-15 teams.

For more details on these two teams, go to www.accesslocal.tv.

Besides the live broadcast, Game of the Week is replayed on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. and Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.  Approximately one week after the broadcast, the games can be found on Comcast On Demand in the Free Local Sports section.

Sac Area Football Coaches honor Access Sacramento's Ron Cooper

Jim Jorgensen of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation presents Access Sacramento's Ron Cooper with a plaque honoring nearly 30 years supporting high school sports.

Sacramento area high school football coaches touted their programs and their ability to help young men mature into adults during the 11th annual Football Coaches Kickoff Brunch Sunday at the Carmichael Elks Club.

Nearly 100 coaches, administrators, referees and officials also honored newly retired Access Sacramento Executive Director Ron Cooper with a plaque for his support of high school athletics for nearly 30 years and for his creation of "Game of the Week" in 1996.

(From Left) Game of the Week  Analyst Jim Dimino, Retired Exec. Dir. Ron Cooper, and Play by Play announcer Will James.

The coaches commented on their teams strengths and weaknesses during a coaches' roundtable, but this year they more frequently noted their emphasis on building character, responsibility and maturity for their players.

Several head coaches were in their first year in the position, and thanked those coaches still in the room whom they played for many years before.

Senior coaches likewise were appreciative of the number of their former student-athletes who were now teachers and coaches.

The event was sponsored by MaxPreps.com, the Sacramento Bee and Access Sacramento.

Nevada County Digital Media Center closes their doors

At a special meeting of the NCDMC Board of Directors on August 15, 2013 the decision was made by the Board to close down the operation of the media center and its cable television channels 11 and 17. As you know, the organization has suffered from the results of a deep and prolonged recession. Many of our key staff members have been working on a volunteer basis for a long period of time, and this condition is no longer sustainable.

Officially Channel 11 will go off the air sometime this fall. The NCDMC will be working with Nevada County to transition the operation of Channel 17, the government channel, to the County. The goal will be to maintain continuous operation of that channel, however there may be a period of time, yet to be determined, when it will also be off the air.

The forced move of the station operations from the Armory to its current location pushed the organization closer to the edge of a financial cliff.  With inadequate operational income for the station for almost a year, it was an uphill financial battle that we were not able to win. The closure is very difficult for everyone who has supported the organization over the years in many capacities.  However, there are not sufficient funds to pay an Executive Director, Engineer or staff to support the organization, and the closure is our only viable course of action. We wish to acknowledge the incredible contributions of our staff, producers, members, donors and business supporters who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep the doors open.

Thank you for your support of NCDMC and NCTV,

NCDMC Board of Directors.
