Attention Community Members & Producers
Over the summer Access Sacramento Production Staff has been working hard to update, modify, and stream-line use of the studio and the handling of equipment. Due to popular demand the TV Studio back-drop (seen pictured above) will be used by request ONLY. A Production Staff person will help you set it up. There is both a blue and tan option. The elimination of the back-drop allows for a more versatile and larger space to work with for sets. Producers are encouraged to check out what we have for use in the TV Studio for sets.
We have many creative producers who have come up with ways to make their sets unique while still using the furniture we have for use. You can also create your own back-drop or set and bring it with you for your show. You will need to take it with you when you leave, so keep things that are light weight or easy to move and make sure they fit through the doorways. If you would like some ideas or need to check if your set idea will work, please ask any staff person at Access Sacramento and we'll be glad to help.
We also have a new check out process for TV Studio equipment use. This new method will help both the Production Staff and the Producer to keep track of what equipment is being used and so time can be used most efficiently. Please check with the Production Staff when you first arrive to do your TV Studio shoot.
Have a fun August and we look forward to seeing you in the TV Studio.

Today was bittersweet at Access Sacramento as the staff celebrated with Ron Cooper as his official retirement begins. He spent the morning transferring over the last important paperwork. While he is happy about getting to enjoy his new freedom, he will be facing a new day to day routine.
Ron will be going on a cruise to celebrate and kick off his retirement by traveling north toward Alaska. He plans to take in as much of the North Coast and inland passage as possible. When he returns from his trip he plans to be a volunteer and consultant for Access Sacramento. The staff is looking forward to having him continue as a champion for the good work we do.
On Monday the staff celebrated with Ron by having a potluck party. We enjoyed the afternoon with the Access Sacramento family. We all wished Ron a happy retirement. We look forward to his future visits and updates on all his trips and projects.

We Had it First Before TMZ!
iPod camera rigs used by Access Sacramento's youngest contributors favored by TMZ
Tourists visiting Hollywood can elect to take any of several bus tours to see the stars, but those who choose to ride the official TMZ Tour Bus are guided by young paparazzi that are armed with the same iPod video camera rig used by Accesslocal.tv's Neighborhood News Correspondents to produce local content for the past year.
The mCAM rig, designed and sold by Action Life Media, transforms a standard iPod a high-quality mobile news gathering machine. With its interchangeable 37mm wide angle lens, aluminum body, unidirectional external microphone, internal video editing software, and Wi-Fi capability, the mCAM puts the power of a television studio into the hands of its user. Accesslocal.tv has five mCAM rigs at its disposal, and has used them to produce dozens of videos for publication on the internet and Access Sacramento's cable channel.
It's easy to see why the media powerhouse TMZ and Accesslocal.tv both chose to use the mCAM to produce digital content. It's relatively small, lightweight, and incredibly simple to use. It enhances the ability of Apple's iPod to capture high-quality video footage, and combined with the intuitive video software of the iPod, turns amateur videographers into documentarians in just a short period of time.
"When Accesslocal.tv was looking for new hardware to put into the hands of our Neighborhood News Correspondents after experimenting with Flip Cameras, the mCAM iPod rig presented all the solutions we were looking for," said Isaac Gonzalez, Youth Media Coordinator with Accesslocal.tv. "From the improved sound quality, enhanced fidelity of the video and ability to edit in-device, the mCAM is an all-out superior content production machine."
For the third year in a row, Accesslocal.tv will produce content live-in-the-field at the annual "Chalk It Up" event in Sacramento's Fremont Park during Labor Day Weekend. Neighborhood News Correspondent will utilize their mCAM rigs to produce short video interviews and feature from the event and publish them on-location to Accesslocal.tv.

Free Workshop Today To Teach Girls About Improvised Electronic Music
Electronic Music: Powered by Girls Building Contact Microphones & Making Improvised Music
Today August 6th, Suzanne Thorpe and Bonnie Jones will be visiting Sacramento and working with 12 girls at Sol Collective. This workshop, for young women (middle school to high school), uses sound and musical improvisation to introduce participants to technology as an artistic tool. In a three-hour afternoon session, participants will learn how to build their own contact microphones and then use them to turn everyday objects into instruments. As an extension, participants will be led by Thorpe and Jones through a group musical improvisation using their new instruments. Participants are encouraged to keep their microphones and to continue to use them in their own creative ways. Workshops are free of charge for the children and students and all materials will be supplied for participants.
This free workshop for girls is presented by Techne. Techne was started in 2010 by Suzanne Thorpe and Bonnie Jones, educators and musicians active in electronic music communities in the US and abroad.
