Live and Grow Well at Camp TLW

You still have time to register your child for our July summer camp sessions! Dates are as follows:

Session I: July 5-July 15
Session II: July 18-29

Camp TLW teaches young people where their food comes from, how to prepare nutritious meals and be environmental stewards through STEM principles.

Chef Lara Holland, writer for Food Allergy Gal, founder of Urban City Fresh and president of Centered Table Co.,partners with us and introduces the campers to healthy food choices. Her curriculum incorporates freshly harvested produce from the farm!

Camp TLW combines farming with traditional camp activities such as swimming, arts and nature crafts, skits, music and fun games. The children will plant seeds, watch them sprout, harvest and prepare produce from the garden. Summer camp also includes trips to a local pool for swimming and designing an eco-hood, which is a miniature sustainable community that focuses on urban agriculture.

Meet Our New Farm Manager

Meet Maurice Small, TLW's new farm manager. With a notebook always in hand, Maurice is a deep listener with a soft spoken demeanor, always taking notes while observing his surroundings. He hails from Cleveland, Ohio  with a wealth of experience working on urban agricultural projects throughout the country. He sat down and spoke with us about what he hopes to accomplish as we build our new Collegetown farm site in the West End.

"What I'm going to accomplish is creating a strong foundation in the community. Community values, community worth, community self-worth, community self-interest. The food access piece is critical and there's about 15 community members working here right now. They're taking income back to this community. Soon they'll be taking food to the community that they've grown. I'd like to create that foundation with the community. But most importantly the simple goal is creating a stronger sense of community pride that goes beyond the norm of "I have a job". The norm will be 'I work at Truly Living Well at Collegetown farm."

Next time you visit Collegetown farm, be sure to say hello to the man in long denim overalls with a farmer's hat. He will listen to your story, will not hesitate to put you to work, and give you an opportunity to help build TLW's new farm and community.
