This is where I will be with My Metaphysical Healing Amulets, symbolic Tibetan Silver jewellery and fused glass on Saturday 8th November in Weston-super-Mare.
Kevin Murphy Craft Fair- The Winter Gardens
Saturday 8th November 9.30am - 5pm
This is the day after the annual carnival
www.metaphysicalhealingamulets.com
I have been working away since the last Festivals of Light in September to produce some lovely necklace, bracelet and earring sets made of crystal and gemstones. The sets start at just £10 for the Tiger's Eye, I'm just looking to cover the component costs so many bargains to be had. I work with a healing vibration and of course these crystals and gemstones carry their own special attributes. I have a huge stock of beads to work with that I have built up over many years. But now was the time to use them and offer these beautiful sets for sale at Kevin Murphy's Craft Fair on Saturday 8th November in the Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare. They are all 'one offs' and some include very large specimens like the Lapiz Lazulli, this one has now sold. I have lots more ready to make up and the ones in this photograph include Lapis Lazulli, Pyrites, Hematite, Lead Crystal, Crystal, Citrine, Crackled Quartz, Mystic Quartz, Green Aventurine, Russian Green and Purple amethyst, Tiger's Eye, Carnelian, Mookaite, and White spot Jade. I have much more waiting such as large Carnelian nuggets, Red Coral nuggets, Blue Topaz and masses more. If you cannot get to the fair you could always come along to my workshop and get first pick, email if interested. I can also sell online. Once I have made all that I can I will be able to focus on my Sterling Silver once again.

Lifestyle trumps genetics for heart attack risk
23 October 2014
Medicine has become too obsessed with genetics and family history when trying to calculate the risk of a heart attack. Lifestyle habits trump the DNA we're born with every time, a new study has discovered.
People with an existing heart problem won't necessarily have a heart attack, even if their genetics and family history suggest they are at high risk.
Instead, heart patients have far more control over the likelihood of an attack than medicine realises by making good lifestyle choices such as eating healthily, exercising and not smoking, say researchers from the Intermountain Medical Centre Heart Institute.
They analysed the records of patients with heart disease at different stages, and discovered that the link between a family history of heart disease and the likelihood of a heart attack was far less strong than had been expected. Even patients with narrowed arteries-one of the indicators of a heart attack-can control the risk by changing their lifestyle, they found.

Jade
'Jade', or yu, as it is called in China, is strictly speaking a generic term for two different gems, nephrite and jadeite. The name is derived from the Spanish 'piedra de ijada', loin-stone, jade having been recognised by the Amerindians as a remedy for kidney ailments. Because of its beneficial effect on the kidneys, the stone was also known as 'lapis nephriticus'. That, indeed, is where the term 'nephrite' came from.
Jadeite and nephrite are both regarded in China as 'zhen yu', 'genuine jade'. It was not until the beginning of the 19th century that mineralogists and gemmologists started to differentiate between them, since they bear a considerable resemblance to each other in terms of their appearance, their hardness and the properties they exhibit when being processed. Both are tough, since they consist of dense, close-grained, matted aggregates, but they differ from one another in their chemical composition and colours. Nephrite ranges mainly from mid to dark green or grey-green, but it can also be white, yellowish or reddish. Rarer, and somewhat tougher, jadeite displays hues which include green, but also white or pink, and reds, blacks, browns and violets. In both minerals, the way the colour is distributed varies a great deal. Only in the very finest jade is the colour evenly distributed. Both nephrite and jadeite often have veins, blemishes and streaks running through them, though these may not always be regarded as flaws. On the contrary, some of these patterns are considered particularly valuable.

Quan Yin/Kuan Yin - Goddess of the Compassion and Mercy
For centuries, Kuan Yin has epitomized the great ideal of Mahayana Buddhism in her role as "bodhisattva (Chinese "p'u-sa)--literally "a being of Bodhi, or enlightenment," who is destined to become a Buddha but has foregone the bliss of Nirvana with a vow to save all children of God.
Quan Yin carries the Goddess and Divine Mother aspect of Buddhism. The same Goddess and Divine energy carried by the Virgin Mary in Christianity. In the Egyptian mysteries it is carried by Isis. In Hinduism it is carried by Shakti, wife of Vishnu, by Parvarti, wife of Shiva, by Radha, wife of Krishna, and by Sita, wife of Rama.
Quan Yin's name is a translation of the Sanskrit name of her chief progenitor which is Avalokitesvara, also known as Avalokita. In its proper form it is Kuanshih Yin, which means "She who harkens to the cries of the world."
In Korea, Japan, and China she is called Quan Yin. She is a celestial bodhisattva and an ascended master. One of her jobs in the celestial spheres is to sit on the board of the Lord of Karma.
Buddhist mythology tells of Avalokitesvara's being born from a ray of light that sprang from Amitabha Buddha's right eye. He immediately said, "Om Mane Padme Hum". This is one of the mantras by which he can be invoked in Buddhist tradition.
Avalokitesvara came to be known by most Tibetans as Buddha's earthly representation and as chief guardian of the dharma (doctrine) until the advent of Maitreya Buddha.
Avalokitesvara and Quan Yin are embodiments of compassion.
She is roughly equivalent to Green Tara in Tibetan Buddhism.
In Tibetan Buddhism Quan Yin is seen in her male form as Avalokitesvara. Some feel that the current Dali Lama is an incarnation of Avalokitesvara. It is thought that the female form of Avalokitesvara, Quan Yin, originated in the twelfth or thirteenth century in both China and Japan.
The Saddharma Pundarika Sutra affirms that Avalokitesvara had 357 incarnations.

Vine
Botanical: Vitis vinifera (LINN.) Family: N.O. Vitaceae
The name vine is derived from viere (to twist), and has reference to the twining habits of the plant which is a very ancient one; in the Scriptures the vine is frequently mentioned from the time of Noah onward. Wine is recorded as an almost universal drink throughout the world from very early times. The vine is a very longlived plant. Pliny speaks of one 600 years old, and some existent in Burgundy are said to be 400 and over.
The stem of old vines attains a considerable size in warm climates, planks 15 inches across may be cut therefrom, forming a very durable timber.
Artificial heat for forcing the grapes was not used till the early part of last century and the first accounts of vineries enclosed by glass date from the middle of that period.
The vine is propagated by seeds, layers, cuttings and grafting and succeeds in almost any gravelly soil; that of a volcanic nature produces the finest wines. It is a climbing shrub with simple, lobed, cut or toothed leaves (seldom compound) with thyrsoid racemes of greenish flowers, the fruit consisting of watery or fleshy pulp, stones and skin, two-celled, four-seeded.
Grape sugar differs from other sugars chemically. It enters the circulation without any action of the saliva. The warming and fattening action of grape sugar is thus more rapid in increasing strength and repairing waste in fevers but is unsuitable for inflammatory or gouty conditions.
The seeds and leaves are astringent, the leaves being formerly used to stop haemorrhages and bleeding. They are used dried and powdered as a cure for dysentery in cattle.
The sap, termed a tear or lachryma, forms an excellent lotion for weak eyes and specks on the cornea.
Ripe grapes in quantity influence the kidneys producing a free flow of urine and are apt to cause palpitation in excitable and full-blooded people. Dyspeptic subjects should avoid them.
In cases of anaemia and a state of exhaustion the restorative power of grapes is striking, especially when taken in conjunction with a light nourishing diet.
In cases of small-pox grapes have proved useful owing to their bi-tartrate of potash content; they are also said to be of benefit in cases of neuralgia, sleeplessness, etc.
Dried grapes; the raisins of commerce, are largely used in the manufacture of galencials, the seeds being separated and rejected as they give a very bitter taste. Raisins are demulcent, nutritive and slightly laxative.
