Festival of Light

Greetings!

I've decided to give all you Newsletter readers and your friends a one off free offer of ten of my 20 Amazon Kindle eBooks, full details below, however be quick as you only have 4 days.

I missed a couple of Newsletters as I was hard at work writing the 20th eBook, there are more  eBooks to come, and the next will not take so long as the last one! I am now well back on schedule for the monthly Newsletters.

The Glastonbury Free Festival of Light is 4 weeks away. I chose the day of the summer solstice on Saturday 21st June and there will be lots going on at the same time in Glastonbury, so it will be well worth a visit.

10 Free Amazon Kindle eBooks for all for 4 days
Having published my 20th eBook I've decided to offer everyone 10 of my Kindle eBooks for free, for a period of 4 days until midnight on 26th May Pacific Standard Time (PST) which is about 7 or 8 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or UTC.  This offer is 'live' now .Look through them to locate the 10 free ones and click the ones you want or better still all of them. If you wish to then give me a positive review I would be exceedingly grateful.  Just go to Amazon Kindle, click on Kindle and Elizabeth Ann Diamond and all my 20 titles will come up. Tell all your friends as they can take advantage of this offer as well.

I noticed that you can now purchase a new Kindle for £59 from the Amazon website, but you can download to your computer if you don't have one.
I did think the 20th - Spiritual Quest - Guidance from the Universe - a Lifetime of Lessons, was the big book, but now I realise the 'big' one is still to come.  I will be starting very soon, now I have cleared everything else out of the way.

  Penguins

The Penguin

Right from movies, like Madagascar and Happy Feet, to logos and mascots, penguins have an important place when it comes to popular culture. Sadly though, people seem to know very little about these flightless birds, beyond the pop-culture penguins that is, and therefore, a reality check leaves you pretty disappointed.

Note: I always associate penguins with Yin and Yang because of their strong colour combination. I beleive that Penguins also represent dreamtime because of the way they leap from the ocean onto land.

Totem & Power Animals

Right from my very early years I have had a deep affinity with animals and insects of all kinds.  I have never been drawn to the tarot but when I first saw the Medicine Cards which feature animals I fell in love with them. I have since taken a great interest in Totem or Power animals and work strongly with animal symbology with my jewellery.  www.metaphysicalhealingamulets.com

"A totem is a being, object, or symbol representing an animal or plant that serves as an emblem of a group of people such as a family, clan, group, lineage, or tribe, reminding them of their ancestry (or mythic past). In kinship and descent, if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, it is called a totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a totemic myth. They have been around for many years.

Although the term is of Ojibwe origin in North America, totemistic beliefs are not limited to Native Americans and Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Similar totem-like beliefs have been historically present in societies throughout much of the world, including Africa, Arabia, Asia, Australia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and the Arctic polar region.

In modern times, some single individuals, not otherwise involved in the practice of a tribal religion, have chosen to adopt a personal spirit animal helper, which has special meaning to them, and may refer to this as a totem. This non-traditional usage of the term is prevalent in the New Age movement and the mythopoetic men's movement."

Natural tumbled moonstone

Tumbled  Natural Moonstone

I love natural moonstone it may be beneficial in helping to maintain the correct hormonal balance during the menstrual cycle. It is an excellent stone for helping us to cope with PMS and with the menopause. It is said to have a beneficial effect on all fluid systems in the body and can help with digestive disorders that may be related to emotional stress

Moonstone calms our emotions and eases emotional instability. It balances over-sensitivity to situations and relieves stress. Moonstone brings out our feminine side, and rather than rely solely on our intellectual reasoning, it helps us to become aware of our subconscious, intuitive feelings and emotions. It brings us flashes of insight and stimulates our self-confidence and composure. Moonstone may also help with calming hyperactive children.

Moonstone brings us many traditional links to the moon and to all feminine values. It enhances our psychic abilities and helps us to develop the skill of clairvoyance. It also helps us to appreciate the never ending cycles of life and to better understand that as each end comes to fruition, so a new beginning takes place.

Charge up your moonstone by the light of the moon.

Macavity's Cat

Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw-
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime-Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime-Macavity's not there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air-
But I tell you once and once again, Macavity's not there!

Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin;
You would know him if you saw him, for his eyes are sunken in.
His brow is deeply lined with thought, his head is highly domed;
His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed.
He sways his head from side to side, with movements like a snake;
And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity.
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square-
But when a crime's discovered, then Macavity's not there!

He's outwardly respectable. (They say he cheats at cards.)
And his footprints are not found in any file of Scotland Yard's
And when the larder's looted, or the jewel-case is rifled,
Or when the milk is missing, or another Peke's been stifled,
Or the greenhouse glass is broken, and the trellis past repair
Ay, there's the wonder of the thing! Macavity's not there!

And when the Foreign Office find a Treaty's gone astray,
Or the Admiralty lose some plans and drawings by the way,
There may be a scrap of paper in the hall or on the stair-
But it's useless to investigate-Macavity's not there!
And when the loss has been disclosed, the Secret Service say:
It must have been Macavity!'-but he's a mile away.
You'll be sure to find him resting, or a-licking of his thumb;
Or engaged in doing complicated long division sums.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
There never was a Cat of such deceitfulness and suavity.
He always has an alibi, and one or two to spare:
At whatever time the deed took place-MACAVITY WASN'T THERE !
And they say that all the Cats whose wicked deeds are widely known
(I might mention Mungojerrie, I might mention Griddlebone)
Are nothing more than agents for the Cat who all the time
Just controls their operations: the Napoleon of Crime!

T S Eliot

Note:  I tried to include this in my latest eBook but sadly it got corrupted so I had to remove it.  A bit like Macavity!  This is the poem my class tried to learn over a whole term in one lesson a week but the teacher kept going back to the beginning so none of us learned more than the first few lines.  But here it is 50 odd years later for me.

Phosphate preservatives in processed food cause heart disease, scientists confirm

07 May 2014   courtesy of www.WDDTY.com

Preservatives in processed food cause heart disease and high blood pressure, researchers have confirmed this week.  They are one cause of the epidemic of chronic kidney disease which, in turn, leads to heart problems and hardening of the arteries.

Phosphates in processed foods, including processed cheeses and cola drinks, stimulate production of the hormone FGF23, which controls levels of sodium in the body.  High levels of the hormone also mean high levels of sodium, say researchers at Vetmedumi Vienna.  People with kidney disease also have raised levels of FGF23 and sodium, and this causes cardiovascular disease, they say.

The hormone also controls calcium levels.  If the body has high levels of FGF23, the kidneys absorb higher levels of calcium, and this reaction causes hardening of the arteries, or vascular calcification.

  Turtle and Tortoise

The turtle has a prominent position as a symbol of steadfastness and tranquillity in religion, mythology, and folklore from around the world.

A tortoise's longevity is suggested by its long lifespan and its shell, which was thought to protect it from any foe.

In the cosmological myths of several cultures a World Turtle carries the world upon its back or supports the heavens.  Wikipedia

Note: if this symbology interests you there is much more to learn, just Google mythology and go from there.

 Witch Hazel

(Try as I might I've been unable to get the text to conform so it is as it is)

Botanical: Hamamelis virginiana (LINN.)

Family: N.O. Hamamelidaceae

Synonyms Spotted Alder. Winterbloom. Snapping Hazelnut.
Parts Used Bark, dried; leaves, fresh and dried.
HabitatThe Eastern United States and Canada.

Description

The name Hamamelis was adopted from a Greek word to indicate its resemblance to an apple-tree.

This shrub, long known in cultivation, consists of several crooked branching trunks from one root, 4 to 6 inches in diameter, 10 to 12 feet in height, with a smooth grey bark, leaves 3 to 5 inches long and about 3 inches wide, on short petioles, alternate, oval or obovate, acuminate, obliquely subcordate at the base, the margin crenate, dentate, scabrous, with raised spots underneath, pinnately veined and having stellate hairs. The leaves drop off in autumn, then the yellow flowers appear, very late in September and in October, in clusters from the joints, followed by black nuts, containing white seeds which are oily and edible. In Britain, the nut does not bear seeds, but in America, they are produced abundantly, but often do not ripen till the following summer. The seeds are ejected violently when ripe, hence the name Snapping Hazelnut. The leaves are inodorous, with an astringent and bitterish aromatic taste. The twigs are flexible and rough, colour externally, yellowish-brown to purple, wood greeny white, pith small. The bark as found in commerce is usually in

quilled pieces 1/16 inch thick, 2 to 8 inches long, with silvery grey, scaly cork; longitudinally striated; fracture fibrous and laminated; taste and odour slight.

Constituents

Of the leaves (official in the United States Pharmacopoeia), tannic and gallic acids, an unknown bitter principle and some volatile oil.

The bark contains tannin, partly amorphous and partly crystal, gallic acid, a physterol, resin, fat and other bitter and odorous bodies.

The properties of the leaves and bark are similar, astringent, tonic, sedative, valuable in checking internal and external haemorrhage, most efficacious in the treatment of piles, a good pain-killer for the same, useful for bruises and inflammatory swellings, also for diarrhoea, dysentery and mucous discharges.

It has long been used by the North American Indians as poultices for painful swellings and tumours.

In the treatment of varicose veins, it should be applied on a lint bandage,

which must be constantly kept moist: a pad of Witch Hazel applied to a burst varicose vein will stop the bleeding and often save life by its instant application.

In cases of bites of insects and mosquitoes a pad of cotton-wool, moistened with the extract and applied to the spot will soon cause the pain and swelling to subside.

Diluted with warm water, the extract is used for inflammation of the eyelids.

Lotion of 1 or 2 drachms with water to an ounce useful for bruises.

Ointment: employed externally for piles.
