Newsletter January 2014

Dr Elizabeth Ann Diamond

Welcome to 2014 and also very shortly to the Chinese New Year.  The latter always seems so much more powerful to me.

I have been very busy updating one of my websites and is now call Metaphysical Healing Amulets. This describes much more accurately what I offer. I've realised that offering these for pets as well will work very well.  I am drawn to channel healing for animals more than humans these days as I feel the need is so great.

There seem to be very major changes for many which may not feel so great at the time. However I do sense that we will be able to look back and see why this had to be.

The first Glastonbury Festival of Light for 2014 will soon be upon us - Saturday 5th April then 21st June & 27th September and the Weston-super-Mare date is Saturday 20th September.

Many Blessings   Liz

Metaphysical Healing Amulets

From £5 including p & p

Copper Discs

I have been making Healing Jewellery for many years and have developed my skills to a stage where I am doing a lot of work with metal.

I will now be offering hand crafted Metaphysical Healing Amulets made entirely by myself.  Pendants seem to be right as they can be worn over the heart chakra, but of course anything else can be used.  I can either make up something specially or charge items with healing energy that I've already made, for use by any particular individual.

I can offer a disc especially for dogs, cats etc which can be worn on a collar, hung above the animals bed or placed nearby.  I have been working on 1" copper discs which I then apply a pattern or symbol to, whatever I feel is correct.  These can also be made in Sterling Silver which will cost more especially if these are to be hall marked at the London Assay Office. I can stamp them myself with '925' at no extra cost. Thinking about it I could also offer charged Tibetan Silver charms for use in the same way. Not only will any of these contain metaphysical healing energy but I then have a direct link to work with if the healing needs to be updated.

Chinese New Year

 Year of the Horse

The Year of the Wooden Horse Friday 31st January 2014

The new Moon on January 30 at 11:20 pm PST (but listed as January 31 in many calendars) begins the year of the Wood Horse. Chinese New Year is a spring festival that begins on the second new Moon after Winter Solstice, with the Sun and Moon in Aquarius. This new Moon also starts the month of the Fire Tiger making energy very strong and lively as Horse year begins, a clear departure from the slower energy of the previous Water Snake year 2013.

The following is courtesy of       http://susanlevitt.com/astrology/horse-year-2014

The Wood Horse year is a time of fast victories, unexpected adventure, and surprising romance. It is an excellent year for travel, and the more far away and off the beaten path the better. Energy is high and production is rewarded. Decisive action, not procrastination, brings victory. But you have to act fast in a Horse year. If you are not 100% secure about a decision, then don't do it.

HORSE IN CHINA

In Chinese astrology, Horse year is considered a fortunate year that brings luck and good things. Magical Horse has supernatural powers, is heroic, strong, and can even fly! A white celestial cloud Horse is sacred to the Chinese Goddess Kwan Yin. Her white Horse flies through the heavens, bringing peace and blessings. Horse is a hero in China because important battles were won due to the power and strength of the Horse.

Horse's cycle is the seventh earthly branch in Chinese medicine and symbolizes June, the fifth lunar month. June is the time of Gemini, Horse's western counterpart. In the summer month of June there is powerful yang chi, and yin chi starts to settle. The sun is brightest and the plants are strong, having reached maturity. In Chinese medicine, Horse's earthly branch is the element Fire. Each of the 12 Chinese astrology signs have 2 hours; Horse hours are 11 am - 1 pm including the heat of high noon.

GLOBAL HORSE

On a global scale, expect some world economies to become stronger while others experience economic chaos and collapse. Under Horse's strong influence there is no middle ground. (The time for middle-ground diplomacy and planning was last year in Water Snake 2013.) Anticipate extremes in stock markets, fluctuation of prices, and general chaos in all things financial. There will be wars, battles, and skirmishes all over the world.

Middle class economies are developing with emerging markets in many places including Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, and India. But there will also be protests for fair development, even wars. Peace can be restored in Wood Sheep year 2015 but Wood Horse 2014 will be a wild ride as the world changes, and changes fast.

BORN IN HORSE YEAR

People born in Horse years (2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942, 1930, 1918, 1906) are bright, cheerful, popular, and fun loving. They find people and crowds exciting, and love parties. Horse's childish innocence, sunny disposition, and natural charm attract many friends. Horse is a highly intuitive animal, so people born in Horse year follow their hunches. Their keen judgment and natural intuition often help them make the right decisions throughout their life. Usually they don't need to struggle in order to succeed and obtain the fine things life has to offer.

Horses have a carefree nature and need ample room for self expression. When constrained by rules, proud Horse will rebel, refusing to be corralled or tamed. Horses will tell you exactly what is on their mind; they are frank and dislike hidden agendas. So this is the time for issues to be out in the open, especially with family members. The time for secrecy was last year Snake 2013, not now in Horse year.

The best years for Horse to have abundance, to marry, have a child, or expect doors of opportunity to open are in Horse, Tiger, Sheep, and Dog years. Analytical Rat year is the least fortunate for Horse.

The Diamond

Believed to absorb and amplify the thoughts of its user, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of other gems and their wearers. The ancients also used the diamond for detoxification as it is said to protect from poisons.

Diamonds can survive conditions that would destroy other materials and so they have many uses in science and industry.  Natural diamonds are rare and very expensive so it hasn't been possible to make full use of their amazing natural properties until recently.  Now we have the ability to grow synthetic diamond crystals and wafers, opening up whole new worlds of technology.

Here is a beautiful Healing Mandala that I discovered many years ago.  I am including it here for your use if interested.  Just sit quietly and stare at it.

'Just-in-case' aspirin may be doing more harm than good

07 January 2014

An aspirin a day is the ultimate just-in-case drug that doctors advise us to take to lower our chances of heart disease-but it may be doing more harm than good, a major new review has concluded.

For every life the drug may potentially save, it also increases the risk of internal bleeding and stroke, researchers from Warwick Medical School have concluded, after reviewing 2,572 papers.

In short, it's a fine line between benefit and risk, they say, although the figures they uncovered may not bear out that conclusion.

Overall, they reckon that regular aspirin use has saved between 33 and 46 deaths from heart disease and up to 34 deaths from colorectal cancer in 100,000 people over a 10-year period. However, over the same period, the drugs have caused up to 46 major bleeds and 117 gastrointestinal bleeds in 100,000 people.

Note:
I suffered a very severe 'bleed' with the 'Just in Case' Aspirin advice from my doctors surgery. Various members  of the medical profession adamantly said that it wasn't the aspirin. I took the aspirin for a very short tome and suffered some swift and unexpected nose bleeds.  After I suffered another much more severe bleed I stopped the aspirin and have not had any 'bleeds' since.

Dust if you must

Dust if you must but wouldn't it be better

To paint a picture or write a letter

Bake a cake or plant a seed

Ponder the difference between want and need

Dust if you must but there is not much time

With rivers to swim and mountains to climb

Music to hear and books to read

Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must but the world's out there

With the sun in your eyes and the wind in your hair

A flutter of snow or a shower of rain

This day will not come around again

Dust if you must but bear in mind

Old age will come and it is not kind

And when you go, and go you must

You, Yourself will make more dust

As seen on Facebook

HERMES  HUR-meez    Roman name Mercury.

A prankster and inventive genius from birth, Hermes was the messenger of the gods and guide of dead souls to the Underworld. He aided the heroes Odysseus and Perseus in their quests.

Hermes was the son Zeus and a mountain nymph. As a newborn he was remarkably precocious. On his very first day of life, he found the empty shell of a tortoise and perceived its utility as a sounding chamber. Stringing sinews across it, he created the first lyre.

Hermes was known for his helpfulness to mankind, both in his capacity as immortal herald and on his own initiative. When Perseus set out to face the Gorgon Medusa, Hermes aided him in the quest. According to one version of the myth, he loaned the hero his own magic sandals, which conferred upon the wearer the ability to fly. Some say that Hermes loaned Perseus a helmet of invisibility as well. Also known as the helmet of darkness, this was the same headgear that Hermes himself had worn when he vanquished the giant Hippolytus. This was on the occasion when the gargantuan sons of Earth rose up in revolt against the gods of Olympus.

Hermes' symbol of office as divine messenger was his staff, or caduceus. This was originally a willow wand with entwined ribbons, traditional badge of the herald. But the ribbons were eventually depicted as snakes. To support this mythologically, a story evolved that Hermes used the caduceus to separate two fighting snakes which forthwith twined themselves together in peace.

Marigold

Botanical: Calendula officinalis (LINN.)
Family: N.O. Compositae

Synonyms

Caltha officinalis. Golds. Ruddes. Mary Gowles. Oculus Christi. Pot Marigold. Marygold. Fiore d'ogni mese. Solis Sponsa.

Parts Used - Flowers, herb, leaves.

The Common Marigold is familiar to everyone, with its pale-green leaves and golden orange flowers. It is said to be in bloom on the calends of every month, hence its Latin name.

It was well known to the old herbalists as a garden-flower and for use in cookery and medicine. It has been cultivated in the kitchen garden for the flowers, which are dried for broth, and said to comfort the heart and spirits.

Culpepper says it is a:

'herb of the Sun, and under Leo. They strengthen the heart exceedingly, and are very expulsive, and a little less effectual in the smallpox and measles than saffron. The juice of Marigold leaves mixed with vinegar, and any hot swelling bathed with it, instantly gives ease, and assuages it. The flowers, either green or dried, are much used in possets, broths, and drink, as a comforter of the heart and spirits, and to expel any malignant or pestilential quality which might annoy them. A plaister made with the dry flowers in powder, hog's-grease, turpentine, and rosin, applied to the breast, strengthens and succours the heart infinitely in fevers, whether pestilential or not.'

Only the common deep orange-flowered variety is of medicinal value.

Medicinal Action and Uses - Marigold is chiefly used as a local remedy. Its action is stimulant and diaphoretic. Given internally, it assists local action and prevents suppuration. The infusion of 1 ounce to a pint of boiling water is given internally, in doses of a tablespoonful, and externally as a local application. It is useful in chronic ulcer, varicose veins, etc.

It has been asserted that a Marigold flower, rubbed on the affected part, is an admirable remedy for the pain and swelling caused by the sting of a wasp or bee. A lotion made from the flowers is most useful for sprains and wounds, and a water distilled from them is good for inflamed and sore eyes.

The leaves when chewed at first communicate a viscid sweetness, followed by a strong penetrating taste, of a saline nature. The expressed juice, which contains the greater part of this pungent matter, has been given in cases of costiveness and proved very efficacious. Snuffed up the nose it excites sneezing and a discharge of mucous from the head.

The leaves, eaten as a salad, have been considered useful in the scrofula of children, and the acrid qualities of the plant have caused it to be recommended as an extirpator of warts.  Edited - A Modern Herbal by Margaret Grieve 1931

Note: I love this plant, slugs and snails seem to avoid it unlike other cultivated marigolds and tagetes. The orange colour is so very cheerful in the garden, well worth growing.

My Amazon Kindle Books

I am working on my 20th eBook, a biggy but not certain what it will contain as it changes all the time!  I will just have to 'Go with the Flow.

The following eBooks that I have put together are all available on Amazon Kindle.  Most are about $1.17 or 77p.  The one  with the asterisk is about $3.07 and £1.92 The UK price is governed by the dollar exchange rate so can fluctuate a little. I made the decision to price them very reasonably so they were accessible to all, preferring to sell lots for a little rather than at a premium rate.  You don't need a Kindle as you can download to your PC and Amazon gives you the software immediately to do this. I was offering all  these as eCourses and those who have bought them can still return your coursework to gain your Continued Professional Development (CPD) Point certificates.  If any of you still wish to do any eCourses just contact me and we can arrange this.
