Greetings!
I have had the time this month to focus on my jewellery, amulets and fused glass so I have been enjoying myself immensely. It has taken a while to tidy and sort my work spaces but this task is nearly complete.
I have been keeping my kiln going almost constantly of late as it takes 12 hours for each firing and cooling. It is a small kiln so I can only fire a bit at a time and some projects can take four firings to complete.
We are fast approaching the festive season. I love to celebrate Yule because it is as if time slows down, and I do not have to wait in for the postman. I have three sons who seem to receive parcels every day! I have never been easy with the over the top commercialism of Xmas but love to spend time with my sons, animals and their friends.

Dragonflies I have had the components for quite some time in readiness to make up these dragonflies which can be used on bookmarks, as pendants, tree hangers, window hangers and even ear rings. I am charging £2 for each one and £2.50 when attached to book marks. They are combinations of Tibetan silver wings, glass pearls, fire polished crystals and semi precious gemstones. I used to make these up several years ago and they were very popular. I will be making more over the next week. I've also got quite a few angels and maybe I will make up some other creatures as well. The Symbology of the Dragonfly. Dragonfly totem wisdom and change Dragonflies start to grow in water and then move into the air and fly. When this spirit animal shows up in your life you may be called to transform and evolve. Symbol of metamorphosis and transformation, it inspires those who have it as a totem to bring about the changes needed in their lives in order to go to reach their full potential. When this spirit animal shows up in your life, it's an indication that it's time for change. Just like the dragonfly changes colors as it matures, you may be called to live and experience yourself differently. Stay open to the enfoldment of your personal journey. Dragonfly as power animal and adaptability The dragonfly is characterized by amazing flight patterns as it appears to be able to change direction swiftly, gliding through the air with no apparent effort. Its lightness inspires those who have the dragonfly as totem to use their ability to be flexible and highly adaptable in any situation. You can call on the dragonfly power animal when you're stuck in a situation and need assistance to gain a new perspective. The solution might lay in your ability to adapt and tackle the issue from a different angle. http://www.spiritanimal.info/dragonfly-spirit-animal/
Fused Glass
This is one of my fused glass projects, 6" squared bowls which I have fuse tacked large flowers onto. I was very pleased at how these turned out and I have many colour combinations available. I will soon be working on brightly coloured fused glass window hangers and some fun, fused glass 'faces'.

925 Ear rings - £6 a pair
Here are some of the 925 Ear rings that I am offering for sale at just £6 a pair. The top rows are Chinese Horoscope animals, the next ones Western astrology and the last ones are semi-precious gemstones on 925 ear wires.
Chinese Astrology - The Rooster
For thousands of years, a twelve-year cycle named after various real or mythological animals has been used in Southeast Asia. This twelve-year cycle which may be referred to as the "Chinese zodiac" associates each year in turn with a certain creature, in a fixed order of twelve animals, after which it returns to the first in the order, the Rat. One account is that the order of the beings-of-the-year is due to their order in a racing contest involving swimming across a river, in the so-called Great Race.
Rooster people are very observant. And most of the time, they are very accurate and precise with their observation. Perhaps, you can say that Roosters have a very keen "sixth-sense". With Roosters, what you see is exactly what you get. There are no hidden depths to the Rooster's character: he is neither complicated nor profound, rather, he is very forthright and straigh tforward.
The rooster likes to be noticed and flattered. He might dress a little flashily with this in mind, but in his heart, he is completely conservative. Roosters always appear attractive and beautifully turned out. They are sociable and love to receive attention.
Believe it or not, it is not an easy task to fool the Rooster. His mind is cautious and sceptical, with this perceptive gift, Roosters make excellent trouble shooters, detectives, doctors, nurses and psychiatrists. Roosters are always up, out and doing. You rarely see a relaxed rooster that sits quietly in the living room, doing nothing. They are also multi-talented, and can become accomplished in many different ways.

Tree of Life Symbolism
My hand crafted Trees of Life are a very popular choice as they look so beautiful and carry such symbolism.
The Tree of Life symbol meaning represents different qualities/virtues like wisdom, strength, protection, beauty, bounty and redemption. It is also considered to be the symbol of the 'Creator'. The tree is associated with the creator because it provides protection, supports abundant fruit production and thereby, regeneration. This analogy can also be used to describe the life of humans. We as humans develop 'roots' of our beliefs, 'branch out' by means of wisdom and the 'trunk' (mind & body) keeps them connected.
The Tree of Life meaning as perceived in different faiths, belief systems and cultures, resonates with a simple and strong message of unity. The Tree of Life symbol indicates that all forms of life are connected through a cosmic energy and that we as humans should live in harmony with rest of the living beings.
Check out the photos of some of these trees of life on my website www.lizdiamondsjewellery.com

Rock Crystal
This is one of the most popular gemstone chips that I use in my Trees of Life. When the sun hits the crystals rainbows can be seen around the room.
Rock Crystal is the name given to all clear colourless quartz. It is widely used as a popular ornamental stone and is also used as a gemstone. Although it is one of the least expensive gemstones, cut rock crystal has been used as imitation diamonds. Rock crystal lacks the fire, colour (of course) and the rarity to be ranked as a fine precious gemstone. None-the-less, rock crystal is in wide use as a gemstone due to its beauty, affordability, availability, and ease of cutting.
The most common use for rock crystal is in ornamental carvings. A well known ornamental carving for rock crystal is the crystal ball of fortune telling fame. While rock crystal is common it is hard to find large crystals of quartz with the clarity and size required for the crystal balls that most of us associate with fortune tellers. Rock crystal is used for many ornamental carvings from spheres (crystal balls) to pyramids to obelisks to figurines to eggs to bowls to wands. There are also many fine chandeliers that are outfitted with rock crystal ornaments.
Rock crystal can have the colorless clarity of pure water, unlike ordinary window glass which is a pale green. Yet the most common flaws - internal fractures - result in veils and colorful refractions that lend beauty to an otherwise ordinary object.
Rock crystal is an alternate and traditional birthstone for the month of April. Quartz is often associated with balance, clarity, and energy.

Just-in-case aspirin may do as much harm as good, say researchers
28 October 2013 Courtesy of WDDTY
Older people are advised to pop an aspirin a day as part of their health regime, but they aren't being told that side effects are common, and include stroke and stomach bleeding.
The true benefits and risks of taking aspirin as a just-in-case remedy have been analysed by researchers at Warwick Medical School, who say that patients aren't being told the true facts about the drug's dangers.
Although the drug seems to have a protective effect against heart disease-possibly saving 33 lives per 100,000 people-it causes an extra 117 cases of intestinal bleeding, and 10 cases of stroke, per 100,000.
There is "an incredibly fine balance between the possible benefits and risks" of aspirin, says lead researcher Aileen Clarke. She says that doctors shouldn't be such zealous advocates of aspirin until more research into the drug's risks is carried out. (Source: University of Warwick website).

My Amazon Kindle Books
I am working on a new eBook on Simple Herbal and other Natural Remedies. This will be the biggest that I have produced.
The following eBooks that I have put together are all available on Amazon Kindle. Most are about $1.17 or 77p. The one with the asterisk is about $3.07 and £1.92 The UK price is governed by the dollar exchange rate so can fluctuate a little. I made the decision to price them very reasonably so they were accessible to all, preferring to sell lots for a little rather than at a premium rate. You don't need a Kindle as you can download to your PC and Amazon gives you the software immediately to do this. I was offering all these as eCourses and those who have bought them can still return your coursework to gain your Continued Professional Development (CPD) Point certificates. If any of you still wish to do any eCourses just contact me and we can arrange this.

Fig, Common A Modern Herbal by Mrs M Grieve
Botanical: Ficus Carica (LINN.)
Family: N.O. Urticaceae
Figs were early introduced into Italy. Pliny gives details of no less than twentynine kinds known in his day, and specially praises those of Tarant and Caria and also those of Herculaneum. Dried Figs have been found in Pompeii in our days and in the wall-paintings of the buried city Figs are represented together with other fruits. Pliny states that homegrown Figs formed a large portion of the food of slaves, especially in the fresh state for agricultural workers.
The Fig plays an important part in Latin mythology. It was dedicated to Bacchus and employed in religious ceremonies. The wolf that suckled Romulus and Remus rested under a Fig tree, which was therefore held sacred by the Romans, and Ovid states that among the celebrations of the first day of the year by Romans, Figs were offered as presents. The inhabitants of Cyrene crowned themselves with wreaths of Figs when sacrificing to Saturn, holding him to be the discoverer of the fruit. The trees live to a great age, and along the southern coast of England bear fruit abundantly as standard trees, though in Scotland and many parts of England a south wall is indispensable for their successful cultivation out of doors. Old quarries are good situations for them. The roots are free from stagnant water and they are sheltered from cold, while exposed to a hot sun, which ripens the fruit perfectly. The trees also succeed well planted in a paved court against a building with a south aspect.
The chief constituent of Figs is dextrose, of which they contain about 50 per cent.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Figs are used for their mild, laxative action, and are employed in the preparation of laxative confections and syrups, usually with senna and carminatives. It is considered that the laxative property resides in the saccharine juice of the fresh fruit and in the dried fruit is probably due to the indigestible seeds and skin. The three preparations of Fig of the British Pharmacopoeia are Syrup of Figs, a mild laxative, suitable for administration to children; Aromatie Syrup of Figs, Elixir of Figs, or Sweet Essence of Figs, an excellent laxative for children and delicate persons, is compounded of compound tincture of rhubarb, liquid extract of senna, compound spirit of orange, liquid extract of cascara and Syrup of Figs. The Compound Syrup of Figs is a stronger preparation, composed of liquid extract of senna, syrup of rhubarb and Syrup of Figs, and is more suitable for adults.
Figs are demulcent as well as nutritive. Demulcent decoctions are prepared from them and employed in the treatment of catarrhal affections of the nose and throat.
Roasted and split into two portions, the soft pulpy interior of Figs may be applied as emolient poultices to gumboils, dental abscesses and other circumscribed maturating tumours. They were used by Hezekiah as a remedy for boils 2,400 years ago (Isaiah xxxviii. 21).
The milky juice of the freshly-broken stalk of a Fig has been found to remove warts on the body. When applied, a slightly inflamed area appears round the wart, which then shrivels and falls off. The milky juice of the stems and leaves is very acrid and has been used in some countries for raising blisters.
