Dr Elizabeth Ann Diamond

We look forward to the time

when the power of love will

replace the love of power

Greetings!

Just over four weeks to the next Festival of Light on Saturday 29th June.  The  presentations and workshops are now all listed on the website.  www.festivaloflight.biz

I've included details of some new events I will be putting on in 2014, at least a few details as these events are evolving and growing day by day. I will keep everyone updated via this newsletter.

My jewellery making is now well underwayagain and I have build up masses of new items. I will soon be immersing myself in the Sterling silver work as I now have my own hallmark. I will be tainge a batch up to the London Assay office to get them all marked up at the same time.

I have just realised that I will be selling my jewellery every weekend in June at various venues.  That should be very interesting especially meeting new people, fellow participants and visitors alike. If you ould like to see my jewellery and cannot make it to any of the events listed please contact me and you can view at my workshop  by appointment.

Many of the crafters I have been coming across have some outstanding skills and I've been amazed at the quality of their work. Bliss

Many Blessings   Liz

Semi-precious Gemstone Necklace Sets

Semi-precious gemstone necklace sets

A few of the necklace sets that I have been making up in readiness for the events I will be attending in June. These are not listed on the website shop, they are all 'one offs'. www.lizdiamondsjewellery.com

Purple Agate

Two of the sets above are made from purple agate. Agate is formed from microscopic crystals of quartz laid down in bands. This is a very stable crystal. Agates are grounding stones, bringing about an emotional, physical, and intellectual balance. They aid in centering and stabilizing physical energy. Agate has the power to harmonize yin and yang, the positive and negative forces that hold the universe in place. A soothing and calming stone, agate works slowly but brings great strength. Its multiple layers can bring hidden information to light.

New Arts & Crafts Events

I have been thinking for some time about putting on new events concerning subjects that I am passionate about, Arts and Crafts.  I've been promoting events very successfully for over thirty years from huge motorcycle, lifestyle and music music events lasting up to 5 days for up to 25,000 people all over Britain, and I am now on my 16th Festival of Light at the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare Somerset where I was born and now live. So we are talking of at least 100 sizable events, this is definitely where my skills lie. Check out www.festivaloflight.biz

I know that there are a great many craft fairs being offered, I've been to a lot as a customer and a stand holder. Likewise art festivals and I have come across many people with amazing skills and talent doing what they really love in whatever art or craft they choose, wonderful.

I have an idea to bring this all together in a very different way and to do this justice I need a good year to do the best possible job AND encourage interest, also to promote and market this venture correctly.  I've been working at an advanced level on this since the beginning of this year, money does NOT drive this venture but there is a need to cover the costs of course.

SO first off are there any of you who would be interested or are already offering workshops and/or presentations on your chosen art or craft?  I already have three dates for 2014 and another towards the end of this year and a brilliant venue booked but I'm not releasing details until I start to promote what I have in mind in maybe a month or two.

Powerful statin drugs linked

to increased diabetes risk

Courtesy of What Doctors Don't Tell You

Cholesterol-lowering statins-the world's most frequently taken drugs-increase the risk of diabetes.  The drugs raise the risk by 22 per cent, which equates to one extra case of diabetes in every 160 patients.

All of the major statin drugs-including atorvastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin-increase the risk for type II diabetes, say researchers from the University of Turku in Finland.

A less powerful statin, prevastatin, might not carry the same risk, and could be preferred by doctors, the researchers say.  Doctors prescribing any of the three more powerful statins that were analysed need to consider the possibility of diabetes.

Rooster Mythology

Alectryon is the Ancient Greek word for "rooster". In Greek mythology, Alectryon was a youth, charged by Ares to stand guard outside his door while the god indulged in illicit love with Aphrodite. He fell asleep, and Helios, the sun, walked in on the couple. Ares turned Alectryon into a rooster, which never forgets to announce the arrival of the sun in the morning.

Rooster is also one of the Chinese Astrology animals and I have Rooster rising in my birth chart.  When I visited many venues in the North SomersetsArt 10 days I kept seeing roosters and when at the one venue I made the comment that I could not see a picture of a rooster the artist quickly found a picture with three roosters on it!  I ended up buying a wonderful picture I saw at one venue which now hangs in my bedroom.

Buttercup, Bulbous

A Modern Herbal, first published in 1931, by Mrs. M. Grieve

Buttercup

Botanical: Ranunculus bulbosus (LINN.)

Family: N.O. Ranunculaceae

Parts used---Juice and Herb.

Synonyms---St. Anthony's Turnip. Crowfoot. Frogsfoot. Goldcup. (French) Jaunet.

The Bulbous Buttercup or Crowfoot is perhaps the commonest of the Ranunculus family, covering the meadows in May with dazzling yellow, being one of the earliest of the varieties to flower, owing to the nourishment stored up in the bulbs.

The specific name bulbosus refers to the bulb-like swelling at the base of the stem, roundish and white, flattened a little both at the top and bottom, somewhat resembling a small turnip - hence one of the popular names for this plant: St. Anthony's Turnip. It is however, not a true bulb, only 'bulb-like.'

The Bulbous Buttercup has some superficial resemblance to the Upright Crowfoot and the Creeping Crowfoot, but is distinguished not only by its bulb and by the fact that it never throws out runners, but by the fact that its sepals are turned back in the fully expanded blossom, so as to touch the stem that supports the flower.

The stems are furrowed slightly, not merely round, as in Ranunculus acris. The upper leaves are composed of long, narrow segments, the lower ones broadened out into very distinct masses.

When once established it is not easily eradicated. Note: Yes this is very true, I've now got quite a few so maybe I will research its use for sciatica.

Medicinal Action and Uses

Like most of the Crowfoots, the Bulbous Buttercup possesses the property of inflaming and blistering the skin, particularly the roots, which are said to raise blisters with less pain and greater safety than Spanish Fly, and have been applied for that purpose, especially to the joints, in gout. The juice, if applied to the nostrils, provokes sneezing and cures certain cases of headache. The leaves have been used to produce blisters on the wrists in rheumatism, and when infused in boiling water, as a poultice, at the pit of the stomach.

A tincture made with spirits of wine will cure shingles very expeditiously, it is stated, both the outbreak of the small pimples and the accompanying sharp pains between the ribs, 6 to 8 drops being given three or four times daily. For sciatica, the tincture has been employed with good effect.

The roots on being kept lose their stimulating quality, and are even eatable when boiled. Pigs are remarkably fond of them, and will go long distances to get them. The herb is too acrid to be eaten alone by cattle, but possibly mixed with grasses it may act as a stimulus.

It is recorded that two obstinate cases of nursing soremouth have been cured with an infusion made by adding 2 drachms of the recent root, cut into small pieces, to 1 pint of hot water, when cold, a tablespoonful was given three or four times a day, and the mouth was frequently washed with a much stronger infusion.

Its action as a counter-irritant is both uncertain and violent, and may cause obstinate ulcers. The beggars of Europe sometimes use it to keep open sores for the purpose of exciting sympathy.

Aker - The Egyptian God & Lion Symbology

In Egyptian mythology, Aker (also spelt Akar) was one of the earliest gods worshipped, and was the deification of the horizon. As the horizon, Aker was also seen as symbolic of the borders between each day, and so was originally depicted as a narrow strip of land (i.e. a horizon), with heads on either side, facing away from one another, a symbol of borders.

the sun to pass through during the night. As the guard, it was said that the dead had to request Aker to open the underworld's gates, so that they might enter. Also, as all who had died had to pass Aker, it was said that Aker annulled the causes of death, such as extracting the poison from any snakes that had bitten the deceased, or from any scorpions that had stung them.

Since the horizon was where night became day, Aker was said to guard the entrance and exit to the underworld, opening them for

We don't meet people by accident.

They are meant to cross our path

for a reason.

The Wasp

Wasp
I've with  had a few very interesting conversations about wasps recently at different times and with unconnected people., one was saying it was only our own fear that draws a wasp to sting us.  Another who is employed to sort out wasp nests said that wasps are as helpful as bees when it comes to pollinating plants and that they are very useful in other ways in the garden.  I found this all very interesting as fear seems to be the re-action that is instilled in us from childhood.

The wasp is very social, and has special means of communication with its family. When the wasp appears in our lives it is a message for us to consider our own methods of communication. The wasp might be a sign that we may need to
express ourselves more clearly.

The Death of our Beloved Pets

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me...

My Amazon Kindle Books

The following eBooks that I have put together are all available on Amazon Kindle.  Most are either $1.23 or 77p.  The one  with the asterisk is $3.07 and £1.92 The UK price is governed by the dollar exchange rate so can fluctuate a little. I made the decision to price them very reasonably so they were accessible to all, preferring to sell lots for a little rather than at a premium rate.  You don't need a Kindle as you can download to your PC and Amazon gives you the software immediately to do this. I was offering all  these as eCourses and those who have bought them can still return your coursework to gain your Continued Professional Development (CPD) Point certificates.  If any of you still wish to do any eCourses just contact me and we can arrange this.
