Greetings!
March already and not so long before we are right amidst spring time, wonderful. This month I am asking for a little feedback on these newsletters. What would you like to see more of? I know the newsletter a quite eclectic with a mix of animal mythology, birds, herbs, foods, verse, sayings, the latest research on disease and illness, stones, crystals. What do you like, what don't you like? It is always interesting to receive constructive criticism from those who actually read the newsletters. It does take quite a time to pull everything together each month but I often get some very good feedback but I suppose those who do not appreciate my efforts may just un-subscribe and not say why. Don't forget the archive of these Newsletters which can be accessed from any of my websites.

you hate something in him
that is part of yourself.

Kingfisher
Also known as the Halycon, the Kingfisher is a long-time symbol of peace and prosperity. It has many legends and superstitions surrounding it with many originating in ancient Greece; the body of the Kingfisher, if dried, could ward off thunderbolts and storms.
It is said the Kingfisher is the promise of abundance, of new warmth, prosperity and love that is about to unfold within your life.
In Greek mythology Alcyone, daughter of Aeolus (king of the winds), found her husband drowned and cast herself into the sea. The gods rewarded her devotion by turning her into a kingfisher, and Aeolus forbade the winds to blow during the "Halcyon Days" (the seven days before and the seven after the winter solstice, when legend has it that the kingfisher lays its eggs)

Vitamin C does reduce the length of a cold
18 February 2013
It's true-vitamin C really does reduce the length of the common cold, researchers have discovered this week.
Taking at least one gram of the vitamin every day reduces the average length of a cold by around 8 per cent in adults and by 18 per cent in children, although one study found it could halve its duration.
The vitamin seems to have the most beneficial impact in people who are under heavy physical stress when they develop a cold, say researchers from the Cochrane Review, who analysed five trials.

Note: This is one supplement that I do believe helps in many cases, for myself and others. I buy from Lamberts

All the World's a Stage
by William Shakespeare
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shiftsInto the lean and slippered pantaloon,With spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wideFor his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,Turning again toward childish treble, pipesAnd whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,That ends this strange eventful history,Is second childishness and mere oblivion,Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

Rocket, Garden
Botanical: Hesperis matronalis Family: N.O. Cruciferae
Synonyms---Eruca sativa. Dame's Rocket. White Rocket. Purple Rocket. Rucchette. Roquette. Dame's Violet. Vesper-Flower.
Part Used---Whole plant. Habitat---Central Europe.
These biennial plants are natives of Italy, but are found throughout most of Central and Mediterranean Europe, and in Britain and Russian Asia as escapes from gardens. The stems are very erect, and grow from 2 to 3 feet in height, with spearshaped, pointed leaves. The flowers, white purple, or variegated, are produced in a simple thyrse at the top of the stalk. Johnson wrote of a double-white variety in 1633. The Siberian Rocket is almost identical. The seeds are like those of mustard, but larger.
The leaves are very acrid in taste, and in many countries, especially in Germany, they are eaten like cress in salads.
In the language of flowers, the Rocket has been taken to represent deceit, since it gives out a lovely perfume in the evening, but in the daytime has none. Hence its name of Hesperis, or Vesper-Flower, given it by the Ancients.
For eating purposes, the plant should be gathered before flowering, but for medicinal use, when in flower.
Constituents---The properties of the cultivated Rocket resemble those of the Cochlearea, but its taste is less acrid and piquant.
Medicinal Action and Uses---In former days doctors combined with poets in attributing marvellous virtues to this plant. It is regarded principally as antiscorbutic.
A strong dose will cause vomiting, and may be taken in the place of ipecacuanha. Powdered, the effect is less strong than that of mustard.
Other Species---The Sea-Rocket or Cakile maritima, Eruca marina, often found on sandhills, is very acrid, and can be used as an antiscorbutic, being prescribed in scrofulous affections, lymphatic disturbances, and the malaise that follows malaria. It is important not to confuse it with the real Rocket
Taken from A Modern Herbal, first published in 1931, by Mrs. M. Grieve
Note: This grows so quickly making the name very apt. I have a large pot that has over wintered and it makes a very tasty addition to salads.

Wild Boar
- Celtic and Anglo-Saxon helmets bearing boar-head crests have been found in a number of places; the crests were supposed to give protection to the warrior. Beowulf, in the Anglo-Saxon epic bearing his name, went into battle with a boar-head standard which was symbolic of his power as a leader.
- Celtic and Arthurian myth has many stories of boar hunts. In a Welsh tale from the Mabinogion, Culhwch seeks to win the hand of his beloved Olwen. He is clearly keen: Olwen's father, Ysbaddaden, is a forbidding giant who issues Culhwch with a lengthy list of ridiculously difficult tasks to fulfil before he can marry. The final tasks are to cut Ysbaddaden's hair and shave off his beard. The giant's beard was so tough that to soften it Culhwch had to obtain the blood of the Black Witch. And the only thing sharp enough to cut the beard was the tusk of Ysgithyrwn, the wildest boar in the land. After killing this boar, Culhwch (with help from his cousin Arthur), had to get the only scissors and comb up to the task of dealing with the giant's hair. These just happened to be between the ears of Twrch Trwth, an Irish king who had been transformed into an irate boar with poisonous bristles! Culhwch proved himself by rising to the task.

The big cancer cover-up
The Neon Roberts case highlights the shortcomings of conventional cancer treatments and the bias against fair testing of the alternatives The recent controversy over the most effective treatment for Neon Roberts-the seven-year-old with a brain tumour whose mother tried to prevent him having surgery and radiotherapy-has highlighted the myths and half-truths concerning alternative cancer therapies. Conventional medicine maintains that no alternative to chemotherapy, surgery or radiotherapy has ever been proven to work, and patients who delay treatment in favour of an alternative are endangering their lives and reducing their chances of survival. High Court judge Mr Justice Bodey, who was hearing Neon's case, agreed and in his summing up commented: "I find it difficult to see that doctors would withhold alternative treatment that would improve survival." Neon's mother Sally had challenged the use of surgery and radiotherapy, and had put forward a range of possible alternative......check out www.wddty.com for more details.

My Amazon Kindle Books
The following eBooks that I have put together are all available on Amazon Kindle. Most are either $1.23 or 77p. The one with the asterisk is $3.07 and £1.92 The UK price is governed by the dollar exchange rate so can fluctuate a little. I made the decision to price them very reasonably so they were accessible to all, preferring to sell lots for a little rather than at a premium rate. You don't need a Kindle as you can download to your PC and Amazon gives you the software immediately to do this. I was offering all these as eCourses and those who have bought them can still return your coursework to gain your Continued Professional Development (CPD) Point certificates. If any of you still wish to do any eCourses just contact me and we can arrange this.
