AS NEW RAINFALL YEAR BEGINS, RESERVOIRS CONTINUE ABOVE AVERAGE

The 2015-16 rainfall year ended June 30 with a total of 49.74 inches of rain measured at Lake Lagunitas--a little below our 52-inch average. However, thanks to careful management and the conservation efforts of our customers, current reservoir storage is 111% of average for this time of year.

Here are the latest water statistics:
  • Reservoir Levels - As of July 25, reservoir storage is 70,229 acre-feet,* or 88% of capacity. The average for this date is 63,068 acre-feet, or 79% of capacity.
  • Rainfall - Rainfall this year to date (July 1 - July 25, 2016) is 0.00 inches. Average for the same period is 0.05 inches; last year on this date we had 0.06 inches.
  • Water Use - Water use for the week ending July 25 averaged 28.30 million gallons per day, compared to last year when water use for the week was 24.57 million gallons per day.
  • Creek Releases - During the month of June 2016 MMWD released 281 million gallons, or 862 acre-feet, into Lagunitas and Walker creeks in west Marin for habitat enhancement.

SAN GERONIMO TREATMENT PLANT TOURS AUGUST 6

water treatment plant
Have you ever wondered exactly how MMWD delivers safe, reliable, local water to your tap? If so, please join us on Saturday, August 6 at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. for a tour of the San Geronimo Water Treatment Plant.

Our water treatment plant operators will be on hand to provide a full tour and answer any questions you may have. The whole family is welcome!

Space is limited, so RSVP soon to water@marinwater.org. Please indicate your choice of tour time and include the number of people in your party. We hope to see you there!

CROSS MARIN TRAIL CLOSURE BEGINS MONDAY, AUGUST 1

From early August through October, MMWD will replace a failed corrugated metal pipe culvert underneath the Cross Marin Trail at Jewell Creek. The culvert is in disrepair and has a decayed bottom affecting fish passage at this location. MMWD's Nicasio water transmission line, located above the failing culvert, is also at risk and could be damaged if the culvert fails.

In place of the existing culvert, MMWD will install an open-bottom arch culvert, improving fish passage in Jewell Creek. This project will also restore the Cross Marin Trail and stabilize the Nicasio transmission line in the project vicinity.

The Cross Marin Trail will be closed beginning August 1, 2016 south of Sir Francis Drake Blvd through National Park Service lands to Samuel P. Taylor State Park until the completion of the project, when it is once again safe for use by hikers, equestrians, and cyclists.

The Cross Marin Trail meanders along the old North Coast Pacific Railroad grade which once ran between Larkspur to Cazadero. The trail is paved for a portion and runs through Samuel P. Taylor State Park on California State Park lands where users can stroll or bike along majestic redwood trees adjacent to Lagunitas Creek, home to endangered coho salmon and steelhead.

MMWD TEAMS UP WITH THE SAN RAFAEL PACIFICS

This summer we are partnering with the San Rafael Pacifics baseball club "Blue Team" to encourage water conservation. For every game with 500 or more fans in attendance, the Pacifics will not wash their uniforms as part of the "Play Dirty with the Pacifics" water conservation campaign.

MMWD Day will be held Saturday, July 30 featuring Director Armando Quintero throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at 5:00 p.m. as the Pacifics face local rivals, the Sonoma Stompers.

But wait, there's more...! The first 200 fans entering Albert Park will receive a reusable MMWD water bottle. Our convenient water bottle filling station will be on site so you can put your new bottle to good use.

Visit pacificsbaseball.com for tickets. We hope to see you there!
