Communication is key in life!

Good communication skills are important in our daily lives at home, work and in social situations.  It would seem with the additional ways to communicate through email, social media and  cell phone, it would be easier.  Yet challenges and miscommunication continues.

One key to good communication is to listen with full attention and really hear what's being said.  In our fast paced days with multiple messages coming at us, sometimes we don't stop and really pay attention.  Without the proper awareness, the door is open to misunderstanding. Communication is like driving.  It's a two-way street and we need to pay attention to what we are saying and what is being said to us!

We recognize the importance of good communication and we are always ready to listen.

Have a wonderful summer!

You've provided your thoughts....now what?
  • Based on survey feedback, we've made a few changes to the workshop/training line up for Sept. 2013 - May 2014 including some breakfast time school mentor workshops and afternoon workshops that start later so
as not to conflict with school schedules for the volunteers.
  • We are asking you - What do you want for workshop topics?   Read More
  • We are in the process of reviewing the survey by program area to identify other steps for improvement.

Meet The Volunteer

The circus is what brought Marge Tick to Sarasota as a vacationer over 50 years ago.  Her Uncle Sam was friends with a group of aerialists that trained in Bloomington, IL and he visited them when they were in Sarasota, bringing Marge and her family along. Marge found JFCS after she retired here.  Rose Chapman was "very helpful and supportive" to Marge when dealing with an important life issue and Marge feels "a special bond with Rose" as a result.  She has now been involved with JFCS for over 15 years, volunteering in school based programs.  She is passionate about education and thinks it is the answer to many problems for individuals and society.

What do you want from workshops?
 Question
Here at JFCS, we realize we have top-notch, high caliber volunteers who come to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge.  This can pose a challenge for us when one of our commitments to volunteers is to provide ongoing workshops and opportunities for learning and growth. We would appreciate any suggestions you might have for guest speakers or topics of interest that would add value for you and help with your volunteer assignment.

And remember, the BEST thing about workshops is not necessarily the content being presented, but the sharing of experiences with other volunteers.
