Greetings!

It Takes a Village

Sometime last year we received a call from one of our friendly bankers, Steve Peterson. "Would you Green Lotus partners take a drive to Oak Park Heights?" He wanted us to meet two other clients of his, Troy and Jennifer Lewis of United Martial Arts (UMA), and see a space next door to theirs in a mall east of St. Paul and near Stillwater. Steve had a feeling that Green Lotus and UMA would be good neighbors, serving kids and adults with the same commitment and offering them opportunities to build confidence, gain physical strength and flexibility, and find healing.

Here is the truth: We agreed to go because of a relationship with someone who believed in us, not because we had a burning desire to open another center right at that moment. We were in the midst of nurturing Mendota Heights and planning a Green Lotus trip to India. Our plate felt full; our cup was running over. We made the journey, in the end, to acknowledge gratitude for and deepen a relationship.

And guess what? We four partners liked the space and felt immediate kinship with the Lewises. Over the next few months, we met and talked with them and each other, drew plans, and listened to our inner compasses. The partners talked frankly with each other of demands and boundaries and then voted. When the votes were counted, it was unanimous. We joined hands, took a collective deep breath, rolled up our sleeves, and went to work.

And so, in early- to mid-April, Green Lotus will open at 5980 Neal Avenue North, #103, in Oak Park Heights, serving Stillwater and surrounding areas. The class schedule (including barre classes) isStillwater sign  coming together, teachers and healers are signing on, and our general contractor is busy guiding the remodeling of the space.  Tracy Johnson Hovde, a yoga teacher who taught our Little Lotus Kids Teacher Training last month and who has  experience in wellness management, has signed on as manager at the new Green Lotus. The new team is excited to bring the magic of Green Lotus and its commitment to community to this location in a new format - a single studio, two healing rooms, child care for morning classes, and shared common space with our neighbors.

And the four of us? We are humbled by having an advocate like Steve Peterson believe in Green Lotus. We are grateful for Troy and Jennifer Lewis's support and encouragement. We are thankful for Tracy, who joins Maureen Farley and Patti Opsahl to round out a manager team that is smart, wise, and funny. We are touched by your notes, calls, and conversations of good wishes.

In the end, the new Green Lotus will open not because of the four of us, but because of all the others involved. It will be built on the solid ground of strong relationships and an experienced teachers and healers. As with raising a child, launching this endeavor took a village.

With gratitude,

Marcia (writing), MB, Candy, and Christie
