| Greetings!
We sit on an open-air platform perched in the tree tops on the second floor of our Ayurveda center in South India. Our group of 18 open-hearted travelers gaze at the gently-rolling Indian Ocean. We hear the cries of the fishermen as they mount colorful traditional boats and wave-ride to deeper sea levels. Chanting from a Catholic church below us rises up, a lullaby of faith and acceptance.
Acceptance. Our Sivananda teacher, a gentle Indian man, speaks to us of acceptance as the grinding whir of a chainsaw reverberates through the palms. Birds, wild and indescribably beautiful, chirp, trill, honk, and screech their disapproval. He says, "Now we listen to a horrible noise," and the moment he names it, we stop holding our collective breath. He leads us through the concept of letting go as we move our bodies and consciousness through this lovely hour together and with others from around this magnificent, puzzling, tiring, and uplifting land, uniting our separateness into one breath, one energy, one consciousness. We chant Om again and again, it creates joy all around.
Already we have been here one week. Rest comforts us at the midway point among three intense periods of travel and sightseeing. We are learning to accept each other and this land as it is, not as we would have it.
Acceptance.
Our best from India,
Marcia (writing) and MB
