April 2012
Dear Friends,
Earlier this month, a member of the Green Lotus community sent an email expressing gratitude for one of our yoga teachers, citing her kindness, enthusiasm, and care toward her husband, who is coping with a difficult disease. Green Lotus was, the woman wrote, making yoga accessible to someone who thought it inaccessible.
The reason Green Lotus offers such a wide variety of yoga styles and healing modalities is precisely this: People come in all shapes, sizes, and degrees of wellness. A integrated approach of acupuncture, yoga, and massage addresses one person's needs, while another seeks Pilates, an intention workshop, nutritional counseling, and massage. Each person's path is exquisitely personal and evolving - the one that is desired and required today changes tomorrow.
Our healers and teachers work together to create an integrated approach to wellness and healing that fits you. Would it be easier for us to offer one-size-fits-all yoga and only massage, for example? Yes, to be honest. And it would be less effective and inclusive.
A new example of this integrated approach is AcuYoga, a combination of yin yoga poses and acupuncture in a workshop setting to promote flexibility, lessen stress, and move energy. Read more about it.
Another is our Sizzlin' Summer Challenge - a fun way to set a goal for yourself and to earn rewards and prizes. More on that below.
See you soon. As always, if you have any comments or suggestions, please email us at info@greenlotusyogactr.com.

Essential Oils & Your Allergies
Millions of people suffer from allergies which are caused when the body overreacts to normally harmless substances known as allergens. Some of the most common allergies include airborne ones likes dust, plant pollen, horse and dog hair, and cat dander, and food allergies such as dairy and wheat.
Your body's immune system makes antibodies to protect you from bacterial or other infections. In the case of allergens, even though harmless, the body identifies them as dangerous, thus triggering the creation of antibodies which cause a variety of inflammatory reactions. The most common reactions include skin disorders (rash or eczema), respiratory problems (hay fever or even asthma), or digestive discomforts.
In many cases, allergies can be minimized by using essential oils. Here are a couple of suggestions recommended by Erica Dolan, Green Lotus acupuncturist in Lakeville, who uses doTERRA essential oils in her practice:
- For adults, put 2 drops each of doTERRA's lavender, lemon, and peppermint in a gelatin capsule, available at drugstores, and then take the capsule internally.
- For children, consider applying the same oils to their feet morning and night.
- Consider diffusing cleansing oils before and at bedtime in the bedroom which can aid in reducing pollen and allergens. Good oils to purify a room include lemon, grapefruit, peppermint, lemongrass, and lavender.
This spring and summer, as you explore ways to counter allergies, consider trying the use of essential oils. To help you get started, use the valuable coupon below!

| GasPump Asana
by Dr. Rachel Allyn
Ever wonder what happens if you drive away from the gas pump with the nozzle still attached in your car? I was the brainiac who did that recently. Real smooth move.
Contrary to what I always imagined would happen - a HUGE explosion blowing up the gas station, myself, and all surroundings into flames - in reality the pump effortlessly released from its base and dangled along the ground as I drove away. No flames. Not even a drop of leaked gas.
Upon noticing there was not in fact an explosion of Hollywood-proportions, I practiced yoga instead. I got out of the car, put my mat on the asphalt, warmed-up my body with surya namaskar, followed it with a standing balance series, core work, a backbend, an inversion, and then lay on my back in the driveway of Super America for a long savasana.
