Crowdsourcing is not just for new entrants challenging established players; the latter can also leverage crowdsourcing to their advantage, enabling users to design new products and testing the demand at the same time.

And for the younger generation, this is simply a normal way of doing things. That's the key lesson I learned this morning as I heard my youngest son explain the genesis of his Lego Minecraft set.

Together we approach the end of 2012. Twelve Twelve Twelve had such a nice ring to it! Then December 14th broke our collective hearts as we watched the events in Newtown unfold, destroying lives and so much of the joy of the season.

Ric Kaner set out to find a new way to make graphene, the thinnest and strongest material on earth. What he found was a new way to power the world.

The toy company Mattel is well known for its Barbie doll brand. They need a constant stream of internal innovations to build on this success. So Ivy Ross, Senior VP of Girls Toy Design set up something she called Project Platypus. Read more
