THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Within the past month, The Sidetrack has received some truly humbling accolades. We just want to take this chance to say THANKS to all helped vote us BEST BURGER IN WASHTENAW COUNTY. We would also like to extend our gratitude to John Gonzalez and his burger-hunting crew for stopping by (the mention for Best Onion Rings was a treat too)!
"Our next stop was AnnArbor.com readers' number one choice: Sidetrack Bar & Grill. We were exuberantly greeted by Linda and Jessica French, the mother and daughter powerhouses behind the popular Ypsilanti restaurant.Along with a parade of tasty burgers, we were introduced to a crowd of Sidetrack cooks and staffers. It immediately became clear the most important secret of Sidetrack's success is the people who work there. From the French family to grill master Noe Reyes to the ever-present wait staff, everyone was friendly, capable and passionate about food and service."
And according to food writer, John Gonzalez, Who has the BEST onion rings in the area?...
"Sidetrack Bar and Grill, Ypsilanti: First, let me say that Linda and Jessica French, the mother and daughter team at Sidetrack, offer one of the best dining out experiences. I must go back. They even periodically offer a Gonzo Burger. All the burgers were great, but if I ever do a search for Michigan's Best Onion Ring, they will battle Mussel Beach Drive-In in Bay City for the top spot. Oh, and the heaping Strawberry Short Cake could serve a family of four! Great job.

ROCKING OUT SONIC LUNCH!
This past Thursday, The Sidetrack served up some tasty street food while Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. brought the jams!
Thanks to Bank of Ann Arbor for inviting us to be a part of such an awesome event again, we cannot wait until next year!
While our Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. JUNIORS (mini-burgers with the band's favorite toppings) were a HUGE hit, it was the band the really brought the funk. If you have yet to give Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. a listen, check them out HERE!

Brews and News
Sidetrack staffers imbibe in some Happy Hour beers and deliver to you the most important news of the month....
+Kwame Kilpatrick is again asking to be released from prison on bond. He claims that he is not receiving enough physical therapy or the ice that he needs to properly rehab his surgically repaired knee. The judge has again denied bond, claiming that Kwame could not be trusted not to flee.
"I have no money and a bad knee,"said Kilpatrick."Where am I going to go?"
The Sidetrack will buy lunch for whoever gets the right answer:
a) Lake Como, Italy
b) Fribourg, Switzerland
c) Kaieter Falls, Guyana
d) Ko Phi Don, Thailand
-
+"Master Bob" Bashara has been accused of stealing 5 packets of ketchup, 6 packets of sugar, 11 packets of jelly, 4 napkins and a spoon while in prison. Now he's REALLY in trouble.
+Another day, another dig. Acting on what was thought to be another reliable tip, the FBI, the Michigan State Police, and the Oakland County Sheriff spent the better part of 3 days excavating a large field in Oakland County, unsuccessfully looking once again for Jimmy Hoffa.
Recently, yet another tip has come from Jimmy "The Hat" Gormazanno and Tommy "Bella Punim" Palazzolo, who insist that Hoffa's body was buried in the southeast quadrant of Washtenaw County, 21 minutes west of Metro Airport.
Per Gormazanno and Palazzolo's description, this is the exact location of the Water Street Project.
The FBI, the Washtenaw County Sherrif and the Ypsilanti Police are debating a plan of action which includes "just waiting until the Family Dollar starts digging."

MI SUMMER BEER FESTIVAL

Friday July 26 - 5pm to 9pm Saturday July 27 - 1pm to 6pm The Summer Beer Festival is the oldest of the Michigan Brewers Guild's four annual festivals. The festival takes place outside in a scenic riverside setting and features more than 450 different beers from 60-plus different breweries from around the state.
"So, what is the BIG DEAL about Michigan Beer, anyway?", you ask. Well, let me tell you a few things about The Great Beer State...
1. We make A TON OF BEER!
In fact, we make so much beer that the MICHIGAN Brewers Guild can't even keep track of the number of beer producers around Michigan! According to The Bridge, "The association estimates there are about 140 breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs in the state, many of them microbreweries that produce fewer than 30,000 barrels a year. That's up from just three in 1991."
2. MI BEER IS GOOD FOR MI
Did you know that Michigan's craft beer industry pumped about $133 million into the state's economy in 2012? It has also received national recognition for its brewers and beer culture!
3. We have Beer Friendly Cities
Grand Rapids was named "Beer City USA" in a national, unscientific poll. Kalamazoo came in second and Ann Arbor finished fourth.

WHY DID THE WALLENDA CROSS THE GORGE.....?
While we don't fancy ourselves a sports bar, we sure do LOVE the Tigers! Come in to watch Tigers on our flat screen TVs and enjoy one of our 24 draft beers.
Nik Wallenda, a 7th generation member of the world famous high wire acrobatic act, The Flying Wallendas, successfully walked across a 2" diameter cable stretched across a section of the Grand Canyon, 1500 feet above the Little Colorado River.
The Flying Wallendas were a hugely popular Ypsilanti Heritage Festival attraction from 1979 through the mid 1980's. During their stays, the Wallendas took right to Ypsilanti and considered us one of their homes away from home.
Before each performance, Tino Wallenda - Zoppo, would speak to the crowd and compare the heritage of the Wallendas to the heritage of Ypsilanti. He would talk of how well they being treated, the quality and the friendliness of the people, and more.
Of course, it was Ypsi who signed their check...but Tino's remarks were sincere.
One of the most infamous chapters in the Wallenda's history happened at the Michigan State Fair in 1972. The Wallendas always work without a net. While performing their signature act, The Seven Person Pyramid in Detroit, the wire faltered, the Wallenda's Pyramid started to collapse, and 3 of the Wallendas fell to the ground. 2 were killed, and 1 paralyzed from the waist down.
The Flying Wallendas later continued to perform the Seven Person Pyramid with other family members, but it soon became an act performed only at what the Wallendas deemed to be special occasions. At each and every of their seven Ypsilanti appearances, the Wallendas (successfully!) performed the Seven Person Pyramid.
The Wallendas traveled with Tino, his wife Olinka, their 3 kids who were in costume performing on a lower wire, and cousins.
During their stays here, they were invited into people's homes for the evenings while they lived for the week in a large motor home near their show site in Riverside Park. The Wallendas starred in the Heritage Festival Parades, they loved it when people would hang around early and watch them prepare for the next show, and they treated everybody like family.
Great people, and great friends of Ypsilanti. But we still think they're a little bit crazy. Check out The Wallendas performing the Seven Person Pyramid at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival-
