Two brothers: Who should get more responsibility?

Two sons worked for their father on the family's farm. One son got tired of seeing his brother always being given more responsibility and authority. When he complained to his father, the old man said, "I'll explain it to you, but first I want you to go over to Carson's farm on the other side of town and ask whether they have any cows for sale."

The son came back soon with the answer: "Yes, they have five they can sell us."

"How much are they?"

The son didn't know, so he went back to the other farm to ask.

"They're $20 each," he reported.

"Find out if they can deliver them."

Again the boy went to Carson's farm and returned with an answer: "They can bring them over next week."

The father thought about this. Then he called his other son in from the field.

"Go over to Miller's farm and ask whether they have any cows for sale."

The second son returned promptly. "Yeah, they've got five cows that they'll sell for twenty bucks apiece, and they said they'll send them next week unless I tell them different."

The father just looked at the first son, who now understood what he needed to do in order to gain more trust and responsibility.

Late-night lecture

A middle-aged man driving down the road at 2 a.m. was pulled over by the police. "Where are you going at this time of night?" the patrolman asked.

The driver replied, "I'm on my way to a lecture about the evils of alcohol abuse, smoking, and staying out late."

"Who's giving a lecture at 2 in the morning?" The man sighed.

"That would be my wife."

Memory challenge

A man drank two beers in a bar and was told that his tab came to $6.50. "I paid you already," he told the bartender. "Don't you remember?"

The bartender scratched his head. "Not really, but if you say you did, I believe you."

On the street, the man ran into a friend and told him what he'd done.

The friend immediately went into the bar, had two beers, and told the bartender, "No, I paid you when I ordered them."

"Well, you have an honest face," the bartender said. "I guess I'll take your word for it."

The second man called a friend, who showed up at the bar a half-hour later. When he was on his second Scotch, the bartender leaned over to him and said: "You know, two guys have already said they paid for their drinks when I know they didn't. The next guy who says that is going to get thrown out of here."

"Well, you don't have to get mad about it," the man said. "Just give me my change, and I'll leave."

Fridge for Sale?

Raymond, from Woodley, Reading, Berkshire purchased a new fridge. The local council wanted £20 to remove his old fridge in an environmentally friendly fashion, so in order to save money he put it in his front garden with a sign that read, "Free to a good home. You want it, please take it."

The fridge stood untouched for 4 days.

Raymond changed his tactics. He made a sign saying, 'Fridge for sale - £50.'

One day later the fridge disappeared: stolen.

Wash it Again

My mother had decided to trim the household budget wherever possible, so instead of having a dress dry-cleaned she washed it by hand. Proud of her savings, she boasted to my father, "Just think, Ivor, we are five pounds richer because I washed this dress by hand."

"Good," my dad quickly replied. "Wash it again."

Pizza to go

Dai worked in a local Pizza Parlour near Swansea, Wales. A man came in and ordered a pizza to take away [pizza to go]. Dai asked the man whether he would like the pizza cut into 4 or 6 portions. The man puzzled over this for quite a while before answering that he would prefer 4 portions because he thought he wasn't hungry enough to eat 6.
