From Citizens for Community Values--Phil Burress
Jim Petro, former Ohio Attorney General, had a bright future in politics until he opposed the 2004 marriage amendment that defined marriage in Ohio between one man and one woman.
In 2006, Mr. Petro ran for governor in Ohio. Knowing he would not be elected because of his support for same-sex marriage, he switched his position and said he did not support same-sex marriage. However, the flip-flop fooled no one. He was eventually defeated and has not held an elected position since then.
Then, on July 8, 2013, Mr. Petro held a Press Conference to announce he has flip-flopped yet again and is now in support of same-sex marriage. Why you ask - His flip - flop - flip? He says his recent change of opinion is due to the fact that his daughter is a lesbian. Sound familiar? Affected by a similar family situation, Senator Rob Portman switched his position to support same-sex marriage in March because his son was homosexual. The vast majority of parents who discover that their child is homosexual do not respond the way Mr. Petro and Mr. Portman responded. Most will continue to love their child but will speak the truth in love, explaining to them that homosexual sex is wrong. Apparently, Mr. Petro and Mr. Portman are in the minority on this one. Due to a child's choice to act on their same-sex feelings, they want to force all Ohioans to accept their new flip-flopped position. I served on the Board of a National organization for four and a half years that helped people walk away from their same-sex attractions. I have a tremendous amount of compassion and love for those who have a gender identity disorder. I heard countless stories from many who walked away from the homosexual lifestyle that the root of their same-sex attraction stemmed from sexual abuse they suffered as a child. My friend, Christopher Doyle, engaged in homosexual behavior for many years and then walked away. He told me that there were four things that happened to him that led to his same-sex attraction. After he dealt with these issues and resolved them, the same-sex attractions left him! Those four issues were: (1) insufficient bonding with his father, (2) Over attachment with his mother, (3) sexual abuse and (4) Lack of bonding with males. On July 31, 2013, Family Research Council will hold their first annual dinner celebrating Ex-Gay Pride Month. This event will celebrate those who have left the homosexual lifestyle and are now pursing healthy heterosexual relationships. While we should pray for Mr. Portman and Mr. Petro and their family situation, we can't allow them to force their family situation on all Ohioans.
