What is Issue 2?
It is a proposed amendment to Ohio's Constitution that removes redistricting authority from Ohioans' elected representatives and gives it to a new, unelected 12-member commission. Commission members are chosen by judges, from a limited pool of applicants.
Unlimited
This large new government bureaucracy can demand unlimited tax dollars to operate and set their own salaries.
- Unlimited This large new government bureaucracy can demand unlimited tax dollars to operate and set their own salaries.
- Unaccountable Commissioners are un-elected and their decisions cannot be repealed or overturned by Ohioans or their elected representatives. The amendment provides no means for members to be removed from the commission, even if they commit a felony.
- Unconstitutional Legal experts believe the amendment inappropriately places legislative appointment authority to the judiciary. Our judges must remain free of political influence.
- Untested & Unacceptable The amendment would add a permanent, untested process into Ohio's Constitution, which would be almost impossible to repeal or change.
- Arbitrary and unfair eligibility rules disqualify millions of Ohioans from serving on the Commission.
Who's behind Issue 2?
An organization called Voters First Ohio, largely backed by liberal groups.
