CCSS: Changes To Curricula and CMTsPresentation by Superintendent McKersie Riverside School, Wednesday, May 8, 9 - 10 am
Greenwich Public Schools have begun to align our curricula with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts and Mathematics. These new national academic standards, adopted by the Connecticut State Board of Education, will establish what Connecticut's public school students should know and be able to do as they progress through Grades K - 12.
Beginning in the 2014 - 15 school year, CCSS-based assessments will replace the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT).
Superintendent McKersie's presentation will be an opportunity for OG and Riverside parents to ask questions and hear how the CCSS will affect the elementary school students.

Pay It Forward We are excited to launch a new campaign called "Pay It Forward." This campaign was created to encourage the children to commit as many acts of kindness as they can. PIF is designed so that the children can actually see how kind they are to each other and those they come in contact with everyday.
Each act of kindness the children pay forward earns them a "hand." They then write that act of kindness on the hand. Each classroom, the office, Media Center, and Cafeteria will have a beautifully decorated box for them to deposit those hands in. PTA volunteers will hang those hands around the school showing just how kind we are. Our school-wide goal is 10,000 by the Moving Up Ceremony in June. We will keep track of all those hands on a giant thermometer displayed in the front foyer. As a special memorial to Miss Benn, we are asking that each child's first act of kindness be dedicated to her. She was a true example of kindness. |
