From the Office
Early Morning Safety Procedures
In consultation with the district, all schools have been reviewing their safety procedures. Currently, the door by the teachers' room has been unlocked from 7:30 - 8:30 am for students participating in chorus, band, orchestra and the Early Bird program. There is now a change to this procedure.
All doors with access to the outside will remain locked at all times. Beginning on Tuesday, February 19, the staff in charge of early morning activities have been directed to greet and gather their students at the teachers' room door, Monday through Friday from 7:30 - 7:45 am. At 7:45 am the students will be escorted to their appropriate activity. This means that students must arrive between 7:30 - 7:45 am for the activities.
If you arrive at school after 7:45 am you must park, enter through the front of the school and get "buzzed in" by the main office. This includes students attending the Early Bird program and students/parents with appointments with teachers. The vehicle drop-off procedure will remain the same.

From the Nurse
Dear Parents,
At this time of year, I want to remind everyone to check their children for head lice. Though there is no health concern with head lice, they are a nuisance and an inconvenience. Just a reminder: over the break, regularly inspect your child for head lice. Traveling presents the possibility of exposure to lice, so it is important to examine your child during the morning and evening routines.
I will continue to provide families with suggested procedures for lice eradication as well as descriptions of preventative measures to reduce re-infestation. With everyone's due diligence we can continue to keep cases of head lice to a minimum. As always, I am happy to answer questions.
Thank you. Judith Finneran, R.N. |

Love Your Media Center Book Drive
February 1 - 28, Media Center
Give the perfect Valentine gift this year - a book for the Media Center will last for years to come! Mrs. McHarg has pre-selected books that would be perfect additions to the Old Greenwich School collection. Send the purchase form and check with your child and the Media Center staff will help select a title, or feel free to join your child in the Media Center to review the books.
Old Greenwich School's Spelling Bee
Forty-two grade 4 and 5 students participated in Old Greenwich School's annual Spelling Bee. This was the highest participation rate in the history of OGS. Box Tops for Education
Did you know that Old Greenwich School participates in Box Tops for Education? It's easy and your kids will love helping you cut and collect these labels. Please clip the Box Top labels from your favorite brands and submit them to the Box Top blue bin at the front of the school. OGS earns money for each label submitted. You can even go to the Box Tops for Education website to track our school's progress and to register for additional ways to earn free money for our school. The next big submission date is coming up so please turn in your Box Tops by Tuesday, February 26.
Afters
Session 2 of Winter Afters begins right after break on Tuesday, February 19. Please check the rosters to see which classes your child is signed up for.

Go Green
Love the Earth this Winter
In these snowy months, consider using non-toxic de-icing substances, such as clean clay cat litter or sand, since chemical de-icers can be harmful to your pets, plant life and the environment. Chemical snow melters on driveways and roads, as well as leaking antifreeze from car engines, can also pollute water sources. Choose electric snow removal products over gasoline-powered ones. While electric products consume more energy, they do not emit green house gases. As green alternatives, use snow shovels, ice crackers and brooms to clear snow. |
