Panel Discussion on Children's Mental Health

Wednesday, February 6, Greenwich High School Media Center, 7 pm
The PTA Council Wellness Committee is sponsoring a panel discussion on children's mental health issues: helping to identify them and providing resources for addressing them. Discussion will be moderated by Greenwich Pubic Schools psychologists, social workers and guidance counselors. All parents are invited.
OGS Yearbook
Volunteers Needed
The Yearbook Committee needs volunteers to take yearbook orders and distribute the books when they are delivered. Please consider volunteering a little bit of time for a wonderful keepsake for your child.

Photos Wanted
The Committee is seeking photos of students and school events. If you've taken pictures at the Holiday Concert, Author Teas, classroom parties, Music on the Menu or any other events, please share them. Deliver a CD with your photos to the front hall bin labeled "Yearbook", or if you have just a few great shots, email to Lisa Davidson. Please include your name and the class/grade(s) photographed.

Health and Wellness

Veggie of the Month

What orange veggie has a sweet, nutty taste and loves the cold weather? Butternut squash. This month's Veggie of the Month is high in potassium, vitamins A & C and magnesium. Make delicious, kid-friendly butternut squash recipes with your children and learn more about its nutritional benefits on the Veggie of the Month page and educational displays in the cafeteria. Stay tuned for information on an upcoming tasting of butternut squash.

Have You Noticed Changes on Your Child's Lunch tray?

New USDA guidelines require double the portions of fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, limits on unhealthy fats and salts, and define new age-based calorie ranges for school lunches.

Students must now choose at least one fruit or vegetable from OGS's new mini-vegetable bar or nutritious offerings like savory black beans and oven roasted zucchini. To learn more about improvements to school lunches, read the "Wellness is a Way of Life" newsletter from GPS Food Services.

PTA Thank You

OGS Pizza Bingo Night

Kudos to Lisa Davidson and Wendy Yu for organizing the first-ever OGS Pizza Bingo Night last Friday. More than 325 people attended! Thanks to all families and friends who participated, to the Wellness Committee for the carrots, and to all student and parent volunteers, including Principal Raneri and Assistant Principal Ostruzka.
