Hurricane Sandy Relief for OGS Families
If you experienced loss of property or were displaced by Hurricane Sandy, the OGS community would like to help and support you. Many parents have contacted the OG PTA with offers to help clean basements, pack boxes, move, make meals, arrange playdates/childcare, provide stress relief services (e.g., Reiki), and some have even offered furniture and accommodations for anyone still looking for housing.
Please contact ogspta@gmail.com so we can help you get the support you need. Several families have taken us up on this offer, but we know there are more of you out there who could use a hand! You are not alone and your neighbors and friends at OGS are just waiting for you to ask for what you need.
A huge thank you to all of our families who are already helping one another.

Report Card 101 for Parents
Tuesday, November 13, 7 pm, Media Center
Thursday, November 15, 9:30 am, Media Center
Last year, Greenwich Public Schools implemented new report cards in all elementary schools. In early December, you will receive your child's first report card of this school year; this is your chance to understand how students are evaluated and to ask questions. Two meetings are offered to accommodate parent schedules; both will cover the same material. I
f you are unable to attend either session, please visit the OGS website for a summary of highlights.
School Photo Re-Takes
Monday, November 19, Media Center
School photos will be sent home in backpacks today or Monday. If your child was absent or you are dissatisfied with the photos, re-takes are available.
If dissatisfied:
- Keep your child's class picture.
- Return the rest of the undamaged photo packet to your child's teacher.
- Suggestions for the photographer may be included on a note that can be seen through the envelope window.
Recommended Reading from OGS School Psychologist
At the first PTA meeting in October, Brenda Generazio listed her top picks for books that help support kids' emotional development and help them (and parents) deal with typical elementary school behavioral challenges. These books are available on loan from Ms. Generazio, or for purchase at your local bookstore.
For Kids:
- The What to Do When series, by Dawn Huebner, Ph.D., Magination Press
- The Laugh and Learn series, by Elizabeth Verdick, Free Spirit Publishing
- The Instant Help Books for Parents and Kids, various authors, Instant Help Books
For Parents:
- Too Much of a Good Thing: Raising Children of Character in an Indulgent Age, by Dan Kindlon
- The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, by Wendy Mogel
