COHIE - Central Ohio Health Information Exchange Monthly EHR & Meaningful Use Incentive Update |
September 2011
|
|
For many Ohio residents, this is the happiest time of the year - Buckeye Football Season!
But Ohioans have even more to celebrate this year. Our state is leading all others, by far, in adopting EHR. Of the 87,000 primary care providers that have signed up for EHR nationally, Ohio has 5,000 (followed by California at 3,219 and New York at 2,962). The Central Ohio Health Information Exchange (COHIE) has helped Ohio in reaching this mark by enrolling over 1,200 primary care providers, the highest in the state.
Knowing the many benefits that EHR adoption can have on patient care and potentially on the cost to deliver health care, this truly feels like something to celebrate!
As always, please feel free to contact me with any needs you may have regarding Medicare and Medicaid incentives and GO BUCKS!
Sincerely,
Matt Esker, Director

OHIO - The Leading State for EHR Adoption! |
The Buckeye State has another reason to be proud!
As of early September there were 5,000 primary care physicians who had opted to adopt EHR and signed up with an Ohio regional partner for help with selection, implementation and reaching "Meaningful Use" of their systems. This is more than any other state in the nation! Click here to learn more.
COHIE is honored to support the effort in Ohio. With less than 100 slots left to fill, we are quickly approaching our goal of serving 1,352 primary care physicians.

Keys to unlocking your Incentive payments |
Both Medicare and Medicaid providers can receive incentive payments for adopting and reaching "Meaningful Use" of and EHR system in their practice. However, there are some distinct differences between the programs. Here are some key points to keep in mind right now.
Medicare EHR Incentive Program
- To qualify for the Calendar Year 2011 incentives, your last opportunity to meet the Meaningful Use measures is for the period from October 2011 through December 2011.
- Attestation on these Meaningful Use measures for October through December 2011 must occur in early 2012 in order to receive your incentives for the Calendar Year 2011.
- However, if your first year to participate in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program is not until 2012, you can still reach the maximum incentive of $44,000.
Medicaid EHR Incentive Program
- To qualify for Calendar Year 2011 incentives, you must meet the 30% Medicaid patient population criteria (20% for Pediatricians), and meet the Adopt, Implement, or Upgrade criteria for Ohio's Medicaid EHR Incentive Program (also known as MPIP).
- If you do not make 2011 your first year in the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, you will still be able to reach the maximum incentive of $63,750 by starting in 2012 through 2016.
Learn additional key information about the incentive programs by visiting the COHIE website at www.cohie.org or contacting Matt Esker at (614) 384-9174. |

Medicare & Medicaid EHR Incentives - Qualifying may be easier than you think! |
By now, most medical practices are aware of the incentives that are offered by the Federal Government to adopt, implement and reach meaningful use of an EHR system. Many practices have taken the steps to be eligible for these incentives and have already begun to receive their payments. However, others fear that the process will be arduous and costly.
Join the Columbus Medical Association (CMA) for an insightful presentation detailing the facts about EHR incentives! Topics will include:
- How to qualify for EHR incentive payments
- Choosing Medicare or Medicaid Incentive programs
- What is really involved in reaching "Meaningful Use"?
- Time frames for qualifying for and maximizing your incentive payments
- Q & A - Time for questions of Matt Esker, COHIE Director and Anne Sims, Practice Manager of MidTown OB/GYN & COHIE client.
