COHIE - Central Ohio Health Information Exchange Monthly EHR & Meaningful Use Incentive Update

August 2011

MATT ESKER II

Over the summer, COHIE continued to serve our clients as they determine how their practice would like to proceed as it relates to Electronic Health Records.  Every practice is unique and what works well for one may not be what is best for another.

Fortunately, our practice consultants are talented individuals who can personally provide the expertise you need.  If you are a primary care provider (including OB/GYNs) who has enrolled with COHIE, consultancy services are free.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any needs you may have regarding EHR and Medicare and Medicaid incentives.

Sincerely,

Matt Esker, Director

Deadline Approaching for 2011

"Meaningful Use" Reporting for Medicare

October 1Are you in a practice that has implemented an EHR?

Are you planning to apply for Medicare EHR incentives in the 2011 calendar year?

If so, mark your calendar for October 1, 2011!  This is the date that you will need to begin your 90-day reporting period in order to receive incentive payments from Medicare for reaching "Meaningful Use" in 2011.

In order to receive the maximum incentive benefit of $44,000, providers will need to begin their 90-day reporting period in either 2011 or 2012.  One benefit of starting the process in 2011 is that the sooner you begin, the sooner you will receive your initial incentive check!  If you miss out on 2011 for your 90-day attestation period, you could be looking at a delay for your incentive check until late 2012.  Click here for a breakdown of potential incentive payments by year.

COHIE is available to help you work through the details and determine what is best for your practice.  Contact Matt Esker, COHIE Director, with any of your questions.  Matt's phone number is 614-384-9174 or at matte@cohie.org.

Center Street Community Health Center on Leading Edge of Technology Adoption

Computer with Steth 2After adopting Electronic Health Records (EHR) and working to reach "meaningful use" of their system, Center Street Community Health Center in Marion is positioned to offer even better service to their patients.  Although there is an investment of time and resources for providers when they chose to adopt an EHR, patients and providers ultimately benefit.  Drs. Hafusat Oni, Fatima Tsalikova, Suzanne Schuler, Nurse Practitioner Stephanie Lorenson and other Center Street Community Health staff members now have leading edge technological tools to manage their patient records, share information with other providers, and even help them make better patient care decisions.

COHIE applauds this practice for being on the front end of technology adoption in the Marion community.  COHIE worked with the physicians and staff of Center Street Community Health Center to enhance care through their EHR and earn incentives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for EHR adoption.

To find out more about how central Ohio primary care physicians, including obstetrician-gynecologists, can avail themselves to COHIE's subsidized services and to learn more about the services being offered to assist with reaching "meaningful use" to be eligible for incentive payments, contact COHIE Director Matt Esker at (614) 384-9174 or matte@cohie.org or visit www.cohie.org and our Facebook page.
