DataFlex Support for Windows 10

Microsoft has announced that the next revision of their desktop, tablet and mobile operating system, Windows 10, will be released to the public on July 29th. Data Access Worldwide will be providing Windows 10 support in the upcoming DataFlex 2015/18.1 revision. Support for prior DataFlex revisions cannot be confirmed at this time.

Currently, Data Access are testing DataFlex 2015/18.1 on pre-release versions of Windows 10. Minor functional variations from Windows 7 and 8 have been identified, and they will be working to resolve them. Microsoft's released Windows 10 product will be the final verification platform for DataFlex 2015, and they anticipate releasing it before Windows 10's release.

Therefore, until Microsoft releases their software, full Dataflex support for it cannot be confirmed. DataFlex will be working diligently to resolve as quickly as possible any DataFlex application impacting Windows 10 issues and release DataFlex updates quickly, if needed.

It is particularly important that DataFlex developers monitor the status of Windows 10. Microsoft is making it available as a free update to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers.

Windows Update now invites PC users to "reserve" their free copy of Windows 10 for automatic installation onto user PCs. The new operating system, with possible impact on applications, may suddenly be present on users' computers.  Please monitor the DataFlex Windows forum for updates about this important subject.

DataFlex Reports Web Deployment Licensing news

For DataFlex developers, DataFlex Reports offers both seamless integration with their DataFlex development environment and their DataFlex database applications deployed for end-users.

An important feature in DataFlex Reports is the extremely light foot-print for deploying embedded reports. And the good news is, the distribution of these embedded reports in DataFlex for Windows environments is royalty-free, if you own a Developer Edition!

However, for the use of DataFlex Reports with the DataFlex WebApp Server for web-based deployment of your reports, you will also need a DataFlex Reports Web Deployment License. These cost-effective licenses allow you to leverage the power of the DataFlex WebApp Server for delivering timely, well organized reports and information to the people that need it, with easy access from any device, anywhere, with just a web browser!

Benefits to deploying web-based reports include:

*    Simplicity
*    Server administration efficiency - multiple applications for different users can be run on one server instance
*    Flexibility - there are no reporting restrictions on Web Deployment Licensed web application servers - any number of users or any number of processes can be run according to hardware capacity and application requirements
*    Low administration (no user counting)
*    Cost is scaled to the number of servers running DataFlex Reports
*    Well suited for hosting providers supporting multiple clients' application reporting needs
*    For web report deployment, purchasing a low-cost Web Deployment License is required for each server (physical or virtual).
