Southeast Portland's Mt. Tabor Streetcar Line
Saturday, February 23, 2013
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Members: $10       General Public: $18

Founded in the mid 19th century, Portland experienced its major geographic growth from the 1880s to the First World War, a period that coincided with the rapid growth of electric streetcars in the United States. Throughout the east side, streetcar lines served as stimulants to the development of the city's "bungalow belt" neighborhoods, imparting a unique character upon them.

Celebrating Our Silver25th Anniversary Celebration Continues with

Library Open House

library open house More than 65 guests visited the AHC on February 2nd to get a close-up look at our library spaces and resources.

On view were historic postcards, books, maps, ViewMaster reels with an architectural twist, and much more. Visitors asked house history research questions, browsed in the Rejuvenation reading room, saw recently-completed seismic protection measures, and learned about preserving their family archives.

library open house Special appreciation to the more than 150 donors and volunteers who have provided valuable items and time over our past 25 years to make the library an accessible and useful collection. See the list headed by founders Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan and naming donor Rejuvenation by clicking here. Should your name be on this list? Our founders kept good records but we have discovered that they did not note down every item given to them. Don't be modest - please let us know if you made a donation so that our list can be as comprehensive as possible. Many thanks!

Volunteer Appreciation!

AHC staff and volunteers had a great time this past weekend at the annual volunteer appreciation potluck hosted by Board Vice President, Tracey Simpson at her new office.   A highlight of the event each year is the white elephant gift exchange which always brings lots of laughs and some fun competition.  A full album of photos by David Greene can be seen here.

Congratulations to Karen Richmond
AHC volunteer and former Board Member and Interior Designer at Neil Kelly. Karen has a recent home remodel project featured in Old House Interiors Magazine.  You can find the article in your printed edition and also online

CJ Hurley would like to share his essay titled Stillness, recently published in Northwest Renovation Magazine.

What many of us could use in our lives right now is stillness.Stillness is the quiet restfulness of the contemplative - harmony, if you will - that allows escape from the mind-numbing sensory overload of the technological world. What I call stillness is what Arts & Crafts progenitor John Ruskin called repose, what he considered the ingredient essential to calling
something a work of art.
