 Greetings!

I was reading and interesting piece about predictable surprises. I was intrigued by the paradoxical nature of the title. Things happen in life that take us by surprise yet in retrospect, when we look back, the events or situations were predictable. The events unfolded in the only way they could. All the signs pointed to the outcome and yet because the event falls outside of my sphere of experience and understanding I can not see it.

Reflecting on the piece I know that part of leadership is about the future, to see beyond the horizon and take actions today to shape the future and the vision I have for tomorrow. As one of my students said today in class "the thoughts and actions today predict the future of tomorrow." The difficulty lies in seeing beyond the limitations of my experiences and beliefs, which are formed and embedded in my past. As the Course in Miracles says "I am never upset for the reason I think I am."

To create the future of my dreams, and not be caught in predictable surprises, I must step beyond what I know into the darkness of the unknown. Stepping into the unknown can be fraught with fear and seemingly at times paralyze me into inaction. In these times my teaching has always been acknowledge the fear and take action anyway. Each step tells the Universe/God/Spirit I am on my way and my fear will not deter me from reaching my destination. Richard Bach writes "when you come to the edge of the cliff, jump and have the faith that one of two things will happen. Someone will catch you or you will learn to fly."

This week we conclude our series on Mike Dooley's book Leveraging the Universe. Rev Ray will be speaking Deb Reinhardt-Brocious will provide the special music and Ginny First will lead our meditation.
